About the Author

When Tawna Fenske finished her English lit degree at twenty-two, she celebrated by filling a giant trash bag full of romance novels and dragging it everywhere until she’d read them all. Now she’s a USA Today bestselling author who writes humorous fiction, risqué romance, and heartwarming love stories with a quirky twist. Publishers Weekly has praised Tawna’s offbeat romances with multiple starred reviews and noted, “There’s something wonderfully relaxing about being immersed in a story filled with over-the-top characters in undeniably relatable situations. Heartache and humor go hand in hand.”

Tawna lives in Bend, Oregon, with her husband, stepkids, and a menagerie of ill-behaved pets. She loves hiking, snowshoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and inventing excuses to sip wine on her back porch. She can peel a banana with her toes and loses an average of twenty pairs of eyeglasses per year. To find out more about Tawna and her books, visit www.tawnafenske.com.

I've been a fan of Tawna Fenske for a while now, and I'm glad to say that her newest book doesn't disappoint. Her stories can always be counted on for lots of humor and heart. And it was so refreshing to read a story about two mature adults navigating a complicated relationship. There was no need for outlandish drama or shocking revelations, and thankfully not a billionaire, mafioso or MC member in sight. Just really great writing. The main characters are interesting and complex, and the secondary characters made me want to hear more about them. And I have to say that while I was a little hesitant about the storyline (I'm not a fan of reality tv), I was completely won over. And finally, I just have to add that the hero was a complete dream. Sexy, smart, loving and kind-hearted. Plus, he owned a combination book store/cat cafe. And he wore glasses...! Swoon!

3.75 stars-- AT THE HEART OF IT by Tawna Fenske is a stand alone, contemporary adult romance story line focusing on reality TV show producer Kate Geary, and indie book store owner Jonah Porter. Told from dual third person perspectives (Kate and Jonah) AT THE HEART OF IT follows TV producer Kate Geary as she pitches the next big thing in reality television to her self-help author and marriage counselor Dr. Vivienne Brandt. What Kate never expected were a series of additions and clauses added to the show that included the doctor’s ex-husband, a man Kate met and kissed weeks before. Taken by surprise at the unusual twist in of their circumstances Jonah Porter agrees to participate in his wife’s reality television series never expecting to be betrayed by the woman with whom he would fall in love. What ensues are the secret relationship between Kate and Jonah, and the fall-out when secrets are revealed that directly impact Jonah’s life. AT THE HEART OF IT is an engaging story with a couple of twists; a professional and personal conflict; and a heroine who is caught between her head and her heart. There are some awkward moments between right and wrong, moments that will eventually lead to the destruction of a growing love. The characters are sassy, spirited, tragic and inspiring; the romance is ill-fated but passionate, and builds upon the potential for heartbreak; the premise is charming and energetic.

Reality TV romances seem to be all the rage at the moment. Kate Geary is a TV producer, she has pitched the idea of her idol, Dr Vivienne (Viv) Brandt, having a reality TV show in which she helps a different couple each week get over their relationship issues. Kate credits Viv with helping her to see her own relationship issues clearly and is fond of quoting Dr Brandt's wisdom. Although studio management give the go-ahead for the show, they want to bring Viv's ex-husband 'Average Joe' to help the couples alongside Viv. Joe provided no-nonsense 'bloke-ish' advice as side bars in one of Viv's most successful books. When the team meet Viv's ex-husband he turns out to be none other than Jonah Porter, the nerdy bookshop owner that Kate met at a B&B four weeks earlier. While Jonah and Viv's divorce was amicable he felt that he was unfairly portrayed as an unsophisticated, uneducated, blue-collar worker - a foil to Viv's intellectual sophistication. However, Kate persuades him that the show would give him the opportunity to show viewers the other side of him, 'the real him' and promises that the show would not try to make him look stupid. He also wants the money to help his sister who lost her leg in a car accident and is struggling to make ends meet at her Animal Shelter. Kate and Jonah have a connection but it's difficult to maintain between all the stunts being pulled by Viv and the studio bosses and the desire to blindside people on TV to improve ratings. When Kate is told about a plan to blindside Jonah and sworn to secrecy her job and relationship are in conflict. I really liked Jonah as a character, he was kind and caring, clever and funny and self-aware. I liked Kate, but not as much. What I liked about this story was that I could see a lot of different ways that this story could have played out and I was kept guessing to the end, the chemistry between Kate and Jonah was palpable, you could feel the heat between them. I also liked the snippets of the filming with the various couples Jonah's down-to-earth take on things. Another great funny romance from Tawna Fenske. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

One of the things that always has me reading Tawna Fenske's books is her ability to make me laugh at some of the conversations and situations that happen in her books. At the Heart of It does this throughout the book. I loved how Kate and Jonah met and play acted while on vacation. The second meeting was weird and funny and just as good. Another thing I love is Ms Fenske brings in lovable animals into the mix even when they are judgmental cats. I have owned a Marilyn before and the inter-dialogue that comes with owning her. I can't wait to read what is next from this humorous author.

Oh, this story! I always enjoy reading Tawna Fenske, but this one..this one pulled be in from the first scene. After a long term relationship ends badly, Kate Geary finds herself away for a weekend at a bed and breakfast, reclaiming the places she loved, but visited with her ex. After running into hot Bookstore owner Jonah Porter, they enjoy a day together full of laughter and fun, and then go their separate ways. When the TV show she's producing, featuring her idol, Dr. Vivien Brandt, moves her to the pacific northwest, the last thing she expects to learn is that Jonah is "joe". Dr. Viv's ex-husband. And the higher ups in the studio want him to be part of the show. Jonah and Kate spend weeks doing everything they can to deny the attraction they feel towards each other, but it becomes more difficult each day to remain "just friends." And to add one more complication to the mix, Dr. Viv decides she's starting to have feelings for Jonah again after all of these years. I found myself rooting hard for Kate and Jonah throughout At the Heart of It, and I highly recommend you pick up or one click your copy today. Jonah is smart, witty, so caring to the people that he loves, that you can't help but fall for him a little yourself while reading this book.

How do you find a way to fall in love when your ex is looking on? Such is the question in Tawna Fenske’s latest At the Heart of It. Part romantic comedy, part women’s fiction, and all heart, this book grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go. This is Fenske at her best. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Have you ever what happens after your favorite author finishes their book? After you finish reading their pearls of wisdom and self-help. Kate is leaving her past in the past. Her last relationship was a dud, but through it she found her mentor and idol: Dr. Viv Brandt: Self-help guru and therapist extraordinaire. While on vacation and living out the ideals from her 3 favorite Brandt books, Kate finds herself pretend married to Jonah. Back to reality, Kate and Dr. Brandt are putting together a reality TV show based on her books. The higher-ups want to bring Dr. Brandt's husband Joe on as the less polished side. During the meeting of Kate and Dr. Viv in walks Joe--also known as Jonah!! Turns out the marriage of the books is also kaput! Can the show really go on? I've read the relationship books of the likes of Elizabeth Gilbert and I remember feeling inspired and full of the "get up and go" needed to find the right one. And then the ice bath of shock when I heard her relationship was over. Was I wrong to follow her words? Would I get the same result? Are ALL relationships doomed??? Those were my honest-to-goodness thoughts when I heard about EG's ending. So to read a story where the leading lady shared my "story line" was even more impactful than I would have thought. Tawna Fenske is known for fun and quirky characters. Characters who share smoking hot experiences and find what they're made of while also finding out what's out there for them. At The Heart Of It takes these ideas and makes the risks more extreme. But that's what every good relationship should be: taking what's available to you and making the risks worth even more. Kate is a producer, a "sideline" character in the reality TV business. Jonah is the lovable side bar in his ex-wife's books. They're not the leads in their own lives. But together they inspire you to realize that stepping to the side, watching others take risks, aiding someone else to make something of themselves... none of it will make you a better person. None of it will be the stuff of your dreams. It's another win from Tawna from me! I loved her use of dual personalities of the story, showing both sides. The language is authentic and the plot is fun. All of it together makes for a truly enjoyable read!

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 5 Loved it!!! I just adore authors who set their books in my home state (or a least part of the book!!) Kate and Jonah are so much fun right from the very start. It was hard not to root for these two. I alway enjoy reading Ms. Fenske’s books. She can take your typical boy meets girl story and turn it upside down and shake it up like a snowglobe. We know that there has to be a happy ending when just don’t know how all the pieces will fall together or how long it will take. I do hope that there will be another book set in this world because Amy really needs to fall in love.
