After thoroughly reading this travel book, I feel it is safe to say I would love to travel to Australia! This travel book, by Les Beletsky, with the help of other contributors, highlights the best parts of Australia, and explains each region of Australia so that anyone could understand it. Within the first few chapters, the reader will learn why tourism, specifically ecotourism, is so important to Australia, what the weather will be like in each region, what kind of plants can be found in each region, what the best parks and reserves are, and most importantly the best way to travel the island. In chapter 5 of the travel guide, Beletsky focuses on environmental threats and conservations of Australia. Environmental threats include: biodiversity loss, land clearing, agriculture and grazing, logging, introduced species, urban growth, global warming, and the ozone layer. Now some of these listed reasons may sound like a good thing, but in the long run they can be very harmful. For example, agriculture and grazing sound like they would benefit Australia, and to some extent they do. However, agriculture and grazing requires the clearing of land, which then leads to biodiversity loss due to animals being run out of their homes and habitats. This guide also goes into great detail of the animals that can be found in Australia. There are separate chapters for amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and underwater Australia. With each type of animal having their own chapter, the reader will gain as much information needed to be able to distinguish what they are seeing as they travel through the island of Australia. I would definitely recommend this travel guide to anyone who wishes to explore Australia! There are so many interesting facts to be learned, and with the many pictures and maps, there is no way you could go wrong. Les Beletsky made sure to include all of the important aspects of Australia, and in the second half of the guide there are pictures of animals, plants, and habitats that can be found all over the island.
