Gene Yang began drawing comic books in the fifth grade. He was an established figure in the indie comics scene when he published his first book with First Second, American Born Chinese, which is now in print in over ten languages. ABC's instant critical and commercial success, along with its status as a National Book Award finalist and winner of the Printz Prize, catapulted Yang into stardom as a brilliant writer for teens and young adults. Boxers & Saints is his most recent graphic novel.

Loved it! I was going through Avatar withdrawal until I discovered this. I ordered The Promise as well.

Luv this, but Aang and Katara need to chill on the 'sweetie'

I MUST FIND OUT WHERE ZUKO'S MOTHER IS!! Each volume, we draw closer to the answer. There is a very intriguing twist in this story, so different from anything I'd imagined from watching the animated series. And I don't know if I like it or not! Still contains witty remarks, hilarious faces, and a very realistic, unbearable, yet understandable crazy Azula all in a beautifully crafted fantasy world.

It's great! And so full of suspense, I love it!

This reminds me of a series called The Rostical Users, both awesome series that feature elemental bending :).

I loved it! This story was really interesting and connected a lot of dots in the show.

This is a great addition to the series, and I recommend it to any Avatar fan. It's filled with back story to a character that it's important to this part of the story, and we finally get to know about what happened to Zuko's mom. Something that a great deal of us have been wondering since the beginning, but also since the end of the series. The only downside to this, is that it's part one, so we all have to wait till July to see what happens next.

*Slams fists into table* This comic made me want to curse in the best/worst kind of way. I WANT TO KNOW. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE F HAPPENED TO HIS MOTHER?!?! WHY?! There were some big events going down in Part one. Zuko is my FAVORITE Avatar character. Only closely outrunning Sokka. Reading this comic made my curiosity BURN. I miss these guys so much. *tears up* I’m so glad I get to experience more via the comics, but one day it will all be over. I really can’t think about it right now. The art in this installment is GORGEOUS. Believe it or not, this is my first Avatar comic. I haven’t had the chance to read/buy the others. It’ll definitely be high on my 2016 priority list. Anyway, I love Zuko’s story arc, which is without a doubt the most compelling character arc in the series. What happens at the ending? NOT OKAY. NOT OKAY AT ALL. It’s an exciting notion, but I love Zuko’s redemption arc, and if that ending is correct, BOOM. That arc is blown to smithereens. I hope Uncle Iroh knew what the F he was talking about in the animated series. I REALLY don’t want that letter to be true. I’m REALLY hoping that Zuko’s mom was leading on Ozai, so she’d have an even greater means of escape. Please, please, please let it be a fake-out. Anyway, this comic was 100% enjoyable and now I CAN’T WAIT to read the rest. I’m so sad that The Search Part Two isn’t already in my hands. I spent all the moolah I had left at ALAAC2015 on Avatar comics. (two, actually, I could only afford two.) and Now I’m banging my head into any hard surface in the vicinity, purely because I should have definitely saved more money….for more comics. Obviously. Because apparently I have no self-control when it comes to books/manga/comics. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to alternatively cry rivers over my bookshelf and my bank account. Also, here’s a picture of me meeting Gene Luen Yang! He probably hears this all the time, but he’s SO TALL. I’m only 5’1 so I’m glad his friend volunteered to take the photo of us. I would have had a hard time getting us into the same frame with my shrimpy arms. Unfortunately, his friend was almost as tall as he was, so I ended up looking kind of squished…and blurry. Ah well, it’s PROOF IT HAPPENED. *see photo on blog, Pictures are not compatible with B&N Reviews

Seriously, Avatar creators, that's as creative as you can get? That's your big reveal? Go ahead and ruin a character's entire arc, why don't you? Ugh. I'll probably by the next two just to see if they can redeem themselves at all.
