I read the first book in the Daughters of the Sea series called Foresaken. I was captivated right from the start and thought this new author did a FANTASTIC job and could not wait to read Awaken (this book). I read Awaken the day it was released on Oct. 2nd. I want to shout to the world: THIS BOOK FREAKING ROCKED!!!! I love the journey these characters go through in Awaken and releasing this in October was perfect, because it contains parts that will make the hair raise up on your arms, but at the same time you are cheering for Stasia to succeed in her life goal. The ending will knock you off your tail! I won't spoil it for you ;) The author definitely set the bar high for the 3rd book in the series. P.S. I am also enjoying the author's blog and webpage.

Awaken is book 2 in the Daughters of the Sea series by Kristen Day. We find Anastasia fighting to keep herself and those she loves safe. She's getting used to being the Chosen and learning to roll with the punches. Ms. Day has developed a great storyline that pulls the reader in, moves at a pace that keeps you from getting bored and gives her characters personalities that draws you in even more. Highly recommend this series.

Reviewer: Bex Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Fairies Awaken, by Kristen Day, is a pretty fantastic read. Picking up where book one left off, we follow the lovely Stasia and the gorgeous, Finn. The author successfully developed and built upon the characters that I so happily followed in book one and took them on a new and pretty epic journey. The pace had such fantastic bursts of speed to mirror the action, while the author allowed for slower moments, providing us with the opportunity to get to know the characters in new ways. Awaken is a fantastic read, but I didn't love it quite as much as Forsaken. Almost, but not quiet. I think I was so swept away by the amazing concept in book one, that book two allowed me to take that slight step back. Obviously, I must forewarn you all , that the wonderfully, evil author has included a cliff-hanger that any Cliffhanger Goddess would be proud of. Oh my! I can say no more! Be sure to grab yourself a copy of Forsaken before delving into this marvellous follow-up. It's an amazing mythology  based read, that teeters on epic proportions!  Disclosure: This ebook was provided to Bex 'n' Books for free by the author/publisher/tour organiser in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.

Wow! I feel like I've been whammied. Ok in a good way but Wow! Book 2 picks up just after book 1 ends. Things are a little hotter with Finn in this one. And we learn about all sorts of new, exciting, thrilling things as the story continues just before Fall Break. What can say without giving you spoilers? READ THIS SERIES if your a fan of mythology and YA sweet romances! It's awesome! Okay, so I'm not a huge fan of YA since it's no secret I like my adults or NA best but even I love this series! Just know I had to start book 3 as soon as I was finished with book 2. I couldn't wait to find out what happened after the way book 2 ended. *giggles* If you liked book 1 buy 2 and 3 together. Your not going to want to wait either!

Oh my! What can I say, another 5 star read, just like the first of the series. If this book sounds like something that is your cup of tea, I would recommend to start reading the series immediately! These books make the whole reading thing so easy! I love these characters and I love the story and the mythology behind the plot, and the surprises the plot has. The story has  young adult characters with their young adult problems mixed with their mythic problems.. I don´t really know what to tell about the book. I just read it and loved it. Sometimes when I´ve read a book I loved, I have a lot to say about it. Sometimes I don´t have much more to say then that I loved it. This time it´s the latter. Maybe I´ll think of something more later :)

Initially it is the prologue that hooks you in. Wondering how this relates to the story and who these people are. This sets the story and we continue on straight away to see how this will impact the story and Stasia. Starting the novel, we get pulled into this world again and into her school life. We get introduced to Nadia and the rumours surrounding her. We can tell that she will be a big part of this novel by how much she is mentioned. Once again, we get told exactly how "hot" Finn is. Is saying that your boyfriend is "hot" and regarding them as such a real sign of affection? Like in Forsaken, secrets are kept from Stasia, although this time it is just from Finn. Stasia knows that there is something that he is hiding, yet he blatantly denies it. Especially after one such moment with Nadia and Priscilla. She does have the right to be angry with him, although she should have pushed him more to the truth. There is a lot more action in this book that keeps us constantly being pulled through everything that happens. We want to keep on reading, finding we are more captivated in this novel than their first in the series. Her adoptive family showing up was random. Nothing really happened and I wanted Finn to walk or for something to happen. It makes me think that it's like a sudden change of mind. It doesn't do anything for the story except make us want for something to happen to show them that she is not who they think she is. A charity case to make them look better. When I read this bit and finished that it felt like this happened. "I want to include the adoptive family in this somehow" *1 minute of typing later....* "No wait, it's not going anywhere" *forgetting about the scene* *forgetting to delete the scene* ...... continuing...... Is it just me or do her friends start to annoy you all as well? There are times that you think, "Why Stasia, don't listen to them! You do what you think is right!" Most of the trouble that happens is because her friends have coaxed her into it and Stasia doesn't have the courage to say that she thinks it's a bad idea. Why? Maybe she is scared that they won't like her anymore? But then what kind of friends would they be then? This happens right through the book and sometimes I thought, "Oh great. Here we go again, wait for the mistake to happen and the 'OOPS, let's not do that again'". As Stasia's powers grow and develop, we continuously wonder about her reveries and who the man is that was featured in the prologue. We have a feeling but are we right to assume who it is? As the journey into the Underworld starts, we know how close to the end we are, and we power through, loving every minute and hang on to every word. All little emotions we felt in the novel leading up to this are amplified and thrown together, leaving us on the edge of our seat as we get to see the strong and powerful Stasia that we know and love, sacrificing herself for the ones that she loves and does what she believes is right. The end proves shocking, making us NEED Chosen (Daughters of the Sea #3). I even checked to see when it will be released just so I could know when I could get my hands on it. Her actions at the end, as well as those she meets tear at us. Tear jerking, heart wrenching goodness. This book screams READ ME NOW!

OH. MY. GOD!!!! Let me first say that the end of the book is a cliffhanger that left me wanting More! More! More! This is such a compelling, all-encompassing story that made me feel all of the highs and lows that Anastasia is encountering in her life. The storyline is fresh and new - definitely unique - and I have enjoyed every minute of reading Awaken and it's predecessor "Forsaken"!!! I am going to have a hard time being patient awaiting the third book in the series "Chosen"!! I could not put this series down! I don't want to give away any of the story in my review, but I can honestly say that this book is great for YA and older readers. I highly recommend this series! The 'Daughters Of The Sea' trilogy is one of the best series that I have ever read!!
