Excellent like always! I was hoping this story would be able Stanislov. I was sure he didn't die in the blast so it was nice to have a conclusion to that story line. Good story, great characters like always. Sad that it's over and anxious for the next book already!

I love this series and am so happy when a new book comes out. This was another great read, my only complaint is that it was too short.

*Book source ~ Purchased This story starts out recapping a huge, action-packed, suspenseful event from over two years ago, but from a POV we didn’t see at the time. If you haven’t been spoiled yet by who the main character is I won’t mention his name. But if you’ve read all the books up to this point, trust me when I tell you, it won’t take you long to figure it out. While most of this series will tug at your heartstrings at some point or other, this one will nearly yank your heart out. So be prepared. It’s that awesome. This is my 10th Immortal Guardians story (shorts included) and I love them just as much today as the day I picked up book 1, Darkness Dawns. I cannot even imagine what it will be like when this series ends. It will join those few that I will read over and over again because I won’t be able to let it go. I read many genres because they all give me something that the others lack. But this one…I’ve said in all my reviews previously how much I love this series, that it has everything I love about books all wrapped up in one great package – humor, paranormal, action, steaminess, romance, mystery, snappy dialogue, kickass characters, and great writing. Like I said, everything. If you haven’t read this series yet, I’m disappointed.

It truly was a heartwarming story. So many emotions. By so many of the immortals. And still full of action.?

I have been following this series since the very first book and I am always can’t wait for the next one to come out. I was really upset when these two characters seem to of gotten killed off and now to find that in one way or another they still will be part of the series is great. Can’t wait for the next one and I will really hate it when the series has come to an end

Awaken the Darkness is the latest in the Immortal Guardian books by Diane Duvall. When Susan rescues Stanislav, he has lost all memory of his past. As they begin to realize Stan has preternatural gifts they are desperate to find his memories and someone they can trust. Reading Awaken the Darkness as a stand-alone is entirely possible. The reader has the opportunity to discover his background as Stanislav remembers. But as a series reader, I always recommend starting from the beginning. Stan and Susan are fantastic together. Their relationship evolves quickly, but I feel it is a reasonable occurrence. You perceive their emotional connection right away. Susan was cautious but compassionate. Stanislav was respectful and protective of Susan, but he was not obnoxious about it. They found instant chemistry with one another and are a likable couple. The plot unfolds in a tight pocket of time, and the pacing is quite fast. I felt an immense amount of tension when the situation called for it. Once Stan was on the correct path to finding his Immortal family, I got especially anxious. The poor man had all the answers in front of him. But if you can't remember your past, it is incredibly hard to trust. Then the ending snuck up on me. Not a lot happens in regards to the overall series arc, but I did not mind this at all. When I first experienced The Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall, I fell instantly in love with the series. She brings an appropriate balance between drama, comedy, suspense, and romance. This is a captivating urban fantasy/paranormal romance series, one that I wait not so patiently for the next installment. I always suggest that all readers come to their own conclusions.

Awesome book: I really love this book, but then I love all of Dianne's books. This one is written just a little bit different from the other books in the series and that makes it very special. I'm looking forward to more books in IG and GO series in the future.

As a reader from the first book's release, I am amazed at Dianne Duvall's artistry. She's a master at her craft in creating beautifully woven tales full of heart, action, and fantasy. Each and every book is incredible and to keep up that level of quality through even a few books, much less EIGHT now (plus two novellas), is truly amazing. This book is no exception. It can be read as a stand alone due to relevant past events being explained or even shown and done so in a way that feels refreshing as opposed to boring for those of us who had read the previous books. It was an EXTREMELY satisfying revelation for devoted fans who have been itching to know what happened to Stanislov in a past encounter (a couple books ago). I couldn't put it down! With my toddler in bed next to me, I was crying at midnight as I finished Stanislov and Susan's story. I had no idea that Stanislov was so sweet, and Susan is one of the most compassionate people in the series (and that's saying something). The reunion is a scene I could read over and over again and the epilogue was a very pleasant surprise. Awaken the Darkness was worth the wait and I am already rereading it. That being said, it only whetted my appetite for the next book!

The latest mesmerizing installment in Dianne Duvall's fabulous Immortal Guardians series! She was the only thing that kept him sane. Awaken the Darkness is the latest mesmerizing installment in Dianne Duvall’s fabulous Immortal Guardians series. This series is earth-shattering awesome and Dianne has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Each of the stories has been heart-stopping, intense, humorous and powerfully romantic. If you are a newbie to Dianne’s Immortal Guardians, don't worry about reading the series out-of-order. Each novel and novella can be read as a stand-alone and has a self-contained romance, so you won't be lost if you dive in with any of the books. You'll just know more about the supporting characters if you do read the books in order. If you read the previous book, Blade of Darkness, you have, no doubt, been worried about Stanislov’s fate as he went missing after the epic battle with the mercenaries. One immortal died - a devastating loss to the team – but Stan’s disappearance seemed even more cruel as it was not clear what had happened to him. As a rule, the team never leaves anyone behind. Was he captured? Did he join his best friend in the hereafter? Sadly, Seth hasn’t even been able to pick up Stan’s essence with his transcendent senses - though not from a lack of trying. Still, none of the team has given up on Stan. Thankfully, Awaken the Darkness answers the question as to Stan’s fate. Indeed, he is still with us. Regrettably, his suffering has been constant and horrific and has dragged on for an incomprehensible two-and-a-half years. His savior is Susan Meyer, an author and an innocent-to-the-Immortal-Guardians’-world gifted one. She is a telepath who hears Stan’s voice – and, thankfully, responds. When Stan is rescued, he has amnesia. He doesn’t know his name, what he is or who is friend or foe. He only knows that he will protect Susan with every special ability that he has. His tale of recovery is heart-breaking, heart-warming and fraught with danger. Susan understands being different as her psychic abilities have always set her apart. She knows she should be afraid of this man with glowing eyes, but she also feels in her heart that she cannot abandon him. The two are strongly attracted to each other, but Stan is so honorable that he won’t enter a relationship with Susan without knowing that he doesn’t have a wife out there somewhere who he would then be unfaithful to. I connected with Stan and Susan from the first. They were each strong and compelling characters and their stories – past and present - will tug at your heart strings. I loved how accepting Susan was of nonconformity and how Stan knew as soon as he detected her presence that she was a friend. Even though their connection was immediate, it felt natural and not rushed in the least. Their romance was sweet and hot and I couldn’t get enough of them together. Awaken the Darkness grabbed my attention from the beginning and never let go. It’s fast-paced, action-packed and, even though parts of it are hard to read with Stan’s torment, there’s also an abundance of comic relief that serves to keep the story light and entertaining. I inhaled every word staying up way past my bedtime on a work night to finish it! Dianne’s characters are believable and her story-telling is flawless. If you enjoy paranormal urban fantasy romances and haven’t checked out Dianne’s Immortal Guardians, you are missing out on an exceptional series!
