Set in the world of the bestselling title Legend Beyond the Stars, an erotic novella about two warriors who have lost the ability to desire, and the human woman who is about to wake them up.

Fran must have been crazy to leave her ordinary, safe life and volunteer as a colonist to terra–form a new earth. Now she is trapped in a prison cell on an alien planet a zillion miles from home and bound for a hideous death in notorious research chambers.

She has one chance of escape: awaken the long dormant sexual urges of the Darkon Warriors shackled in the next cell.

It's a desperate job, but someone has to do it.

Not that great

This was a good erotic read that could have been great if the writer more believable elements and information in the story. The story is very simple and very repetitive. Fran, a human goes out into space (I'm not sure why) and somehow gets arrested. (The book never says how she was arrested or what her crime was. The story begins with her and her cell mates having found a way to get loose and out of their cells. They are discussing their need of the men to help them. She and her cell mates discovers a way to escape, but they decide to get the men in the cells down the hall to help them. These men have been weakened by their imprisonment and they need sex to restore their energy. So, Fran goes from cell pretty much having sex with each guy to bring them to full strength for the escape. I think I could have really liked this book more if the plot was developed more and there was more interaction than her just walking in to each cell and having sex with each stranger. I couldn't get any type of attachment to Fran because I didn't know anything about her personality. While the hot scenes are great, the book makes for a better read when it is well balanced. It's possible to do this within set page ranges if the book is written well enough. This book seemed to have vacant holes like Swiss cheese, and little to no character development. So for me it was just wham bam and then next.

I really wanted to love this book, but it was just alright.  I knew going in that the premise was a bit silly, so that did not bug me at all.  I kind of like silly in these kinds of books.  It makes them a fun read.  Unfortunately, I felt like the first part was so rushed that I did not really care that she "awakened" them and I did not feel any connection to the characters.  By the time of the escape, I was along for the ride and did enjoy the action as it unfolded.  I think this could have been an amazing story if it had a more in depth beginning.  I am a huge fan of novellas and I think it could have been a little deeper while still keeping it at that length.  Will I give more of this author's reads a try?  Probably.  I liked the scifi elements and think her world could be very interesting.  I have a feeling if you have read her other novellas you would like this one better than I did because you understood her world better.

Title: Awakening The Warriors - Escape Sci-Fi Author: S E Gilchrist Publisher: Harlequin Enterprises Pty Ltd, Austrailia Published: 5-1-2013 ISBN: 13-978-08579-9047-1 E-Book ASIN: B00BTTJ8E0 Pages: 46 Genre: Romance Tags: Erotic, Futuristic, Suspense, SciFi Fran finds herself in a cell with other females of different races and I don't mean Mexican or Greek, but rather we are speaking of races like the Pukrons and Jurian. Crying out her plea of not wanting to die in such a desolate place. Ralia tells Fran that the Dakrons, that have been beaten every day that Fran knows of are their only hope of escaping. When their jailors leave their cells Ralia and her fellow Pukron gain access to the Dakron cell. Fran slips in as the others return to their cell in case the jailors return. Inside the cell Fran finds 3 Dakron warriors strapped to tables, covered in bruises and blood, two alive and one dead. She wonders how these can be the women's saviors, they are barely alive themselves. Then she begins to fantasize the most inappropriate things considering the circumstances. When Jarrell, the first warrior tells her that it is the pull and the only way to release his and Quain's Drakon is to give in to it Fran at first balks. Can carry through to awaken Jarrell's and Quain's Drakon? Even if she can awaken the Drakon can they escape the prison? If Fran completes the Pull will she and her warriors be together forever or just for the moment? The heat level is blazing. The story line is very intriguing. There are other stand alone stories based on this unique world created by S E Gilchrist. I liked this book very much. 3.5 stars Overall, I enjoyed this and I will be checking out more of S.E.'s work. The world she creates in this sci-fi erotic short is interesting and I would definitely like to know more about it. I didn't have time to connect with the characters, and I don't feel there was enough story here to fully develop them, but I did sympathize with them and I liked them. The writing felt disjointed, with sentences phrased oddly and words thrown in that felt out of place. However, that could be because S.E. is an Australian author and perhaps the writing style is different in Australia. So please, take that comment with a dash of salt. There were a few (very few) grammar issues, but I read the advanced copy which may not have been fully edited at the time. On a stylistic level, parts of the story felt rushed, and many of the transitions between scenes were rough. I would have loved for this to be a full length novella at maybe three times the length where we readers could become fully vested in the story and the characters. Both were interesting enough (story and characters) that I feel it would make an excellent longer novella. Due to some explicit content, I would recommend this for adults only. ~Lilly VanHorn
