Ms. Thornton cleverly blended stories from her mother's life with other intriguing tales to produce a powerful storyline that grabbed me from the first page. In this story the heroine Babe was persuaded to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Walker Davis, to determine why she was continually plagued with migraine headaches. She attended group sessions with Aloishus Burns a recovering alcoholic, Vivian Delaney a writer, and Dorian Simmons a union steward with the United States Postal Service. This diverse group had so many interesting events taking place in their lives. I stayed on the edge of my seat anxiously anticipating what else was to come until I had read the last page. Babe's best friend Octavia told her that only crazy people went to psychiatrist. She warned Babe against laying down on that couch in the psychiatrist's office. Dr. Davis used hynosis to try to help determine the source of Babe's headaches. Under hypnosis Babe recalled different situations including a lynching in Georgia during the early 1900's when she was five. Other events taking place were the investigation being conducted by the Indianapolis Authorities. Someone was setting fires to abandoned homes in the area. Some surprising events turned up during the investigation. There was so much excitement going on that at times I forgot about my surroundings. The book will hold your interest. Pick up a copy of this book and I promise that it will be an enjoyable read.

Babe is the third novel from Word Mistress, Delores Thornton. For those who thoroughly enjoyed her Ida Mae series, BABE will be another emotional and well written story. BABE is an elderly woman who has suffered from headaches most of her life. Upon further examination, through hypnosis by Dr. Walker a psychiatrist, it is discovered that BABE as a child saw horrendous acts. The acts which included a beheading as well as the fiery death of a young white girl in her own livingroom, have been surpressed by BABE and she now at the age of 80+ has to come face-to-face with a tortured past. If you feel you have experienced this premise before, you probably have, however, it is with the supporting characters and the dialect that takes this heart-rendering story to another level. There is also a poem that deals with....when we were colored...it is that poem that fully reveals the depth of BABE's wonderful and enlightening character. BABE will undoubtedly enjoy the same success as the other novels written by this talented writer, Delores Thornton. However, this story has 'Movie of the Week' written all over it.
