About the Author

With the publication of this second edition, Bart Astor updates the experience he and his family had when his mother-in-law died after seven years of physical and mental deterioration. In those seven years they gradually took over all her legal and business affairs. It was depressing and frightening to have to make all the decisions for her and deal with the uncertainties. They felt totally alone. But they stumbled through, making many mistakes that they learned from. Ten years later when his father's health deteriorated they faced similar circumstances. But with his experience with his mother-in-law and from the research he did for the book, they felt more confident and always included his father in decision-making. His father died peacefully, and the family knew they had all done everything we could to make his life a little easier.

His story is not much different than what millions of others will face as they see their parents age. Bart Astor has provided us with this easy-to-use handbook that helps others navigate through the various administrative procedures and makes caring for an aging parent easier to manage.

My parents and I have been trying to talk about how we'll all take care of them as they age. We know it's a tough conversation to have no matter how well you think you're prepared for it. I heard about this book on Good Morning America. It's been a huge help in giving me perspective on all the things to think about as they age. Everything from financial and legal to medical and emotional, Bart Astor does a great job pointing you in the right direction for answers. If you're getting ready to care for aging parents, or if you already are, this book is a huge help. Thanks Bart!
