Overview

If I had a second title to this book it would be Confessions of A Recovering Boomer Co-deparent. By boomer co-deparent I mean-A baby boomer or any parent that has a codependent relationship with his/her troubled young adult 18 years or older. For I have personally discovered that if we as parents of problematic young adults do not reclaim our lives we stand the chance of not being any happier than our unhappiest young adult. By reclaiming our lives I do not mean that we no longer try to help our young adults live more responsibly. But I do mean that we take as much care of ourselves as we do our irresponsible young adults and find our own voice once again. Hopefully, this book will help increase our own autonomy (self-governing) and decrease our codependency (unhealthy dependency) in the process of taking better care of ourselves as we try to help our young adults.

About the Author

Hi, my name is Murphy and I am a recovering bommer co-deparent! After being graduated from the University of Florida, I did my masters degree at Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY., and attained my doctoral degree in Pastoral Counseling at Vanderbilt University, finishing in 1972. For several years I served on staff at two local churches emphasizing care and counseling. Following this, I went to Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, where I completed a one year internship and a two year residency in Pastoral Care and Counseling. Since 1984, I have had a full time counseling practice and am licensed as a Professional Counselor, Mental Health Service Provider and Pastoral Therapist. I have a private counseling practice in McMinnville, TN, (near Nashville) and am the senior therapist on staff at the Christian Counseling Center in Dalton, GA. Also, I am a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC).
