About the Author

Martha Whitmore Hickman says, “I have tried to tell the Nativity story with the utmost simplicity, while allowing for its mystery, its dangers, it high moments of arrival, as well as the love and power, the excitement and joy that accompany our own journey to Bethlehem.”
Hickman lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, Hoyt, a minister. They are parents of three grown sons and grandparents of four girls and two boys. She is the author of many books for children, including And God Created Squash: How the World Began, also illustrated by Giuliano Ferri.
Giuliano Ferri lives in Pesaro, Italy. He is a graduate of the Art Institute of Urbino, Italy. For several years he has been illustrating children’s books, often working together with author Francesca Bosca. His illustrations have been shown at many international exhibitions, including the Children’s Book Fair at Bologna, Italy, and UNICEF headquarters in New York.
Ferri also works in his community, organizing play activities for children with special needs. In his spare time, he enjoys soccer and playing the guitar.
