About the Author

Michael Huxley is an author, freelance travel writer and the founder of Bemused Backpacker, the website and book series devoted to showing people how they can travel cheaply, easily and independently.

He is also a qualified charge nurse with a specific interest in emergency nursing and travel medicine, and has used that experience to volunteer as a medic on expeditions through terrain as diverse as the Sahara desert to the jungles of Borneo and the famous volcanic ring of fire in Indonesia.

Michael's passion for travel has seen him backpack around the world for over a decade and through well over 40 countries, and he uses that experience to inspire others to do the same and show them that anyone can travel around the world independently.
