The book Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray by Nick Bruel is a continuation of the Bad Kitty series. This is a chapter book written for children ages 7 and up. This is the first time I have read any of the Bad Kitty books and I actually really liked this one. In this book the unnamed and unseen human owners are going out of town and promise to bring back a special surprise for Bad Kitty and puppy. The bad kitty and puppy are left under the care of Uncle Murray. Bad Kitty is very concerned when he hears this information and gives Uncle Murray a hard time. The book guides the reader through the crazy adventures of Bad Kitty and puppy, but is broken up by uncle Murray’s informational asides about cats and why they act the way they do. Bad Kitty and Uncle Murray do eventually make amends just in time for the owners to return home. This book is absolutely hilarious and a quick easy read. These chapter books have many pictures and are designed to bridge the gap between picture books and chapter books. The author, Nick Bruel, does a good job making it a little easier for children to transition between picture books and chapter books. I understand why children are drawn to these books. This one is funny, entertaining, informational and a joy to read. I definitely recommend this book to young readers.

I bought this for my 6y.o. who started out with original Bad Kitty book. We both love this book and found it to be hilarious. And it has been so much fun for me to read (and re-read) to her. The cast of kitties from "Happy Birthday Bad Kitty" return for guest appearances (we are hoping for a "Strange Kitty" stand alone book).

Uncle Murray comes to take care of Bad Kitty and Puppy while their owners go away. Let the games begin. First of all, Bad Kitty is a touchy little cat. Bad Kitty needs to be handled with care and Uncle Murray is like a bull in a china shop. After some hilarious non-starters, Uncle Murray decides that goofy cat isn't worth it and he leaves. However, responsibility gets the better of him and lucky for us readers, Uncle Murray returns to take care of the animals. An uneasy alliance is formed. When the pets' owners return, Uncle Murray is somewhat catatonic and is mumbling about what nice pets fish make. The best part of the book is the last page when Bad Kitty is introduced to the reason his owners have been gone for a week: the new baby. This reader eagerly awaits the next book that will no doubt pit baby against Kitty. Bruel has created a funny little character in Bad Kitty. Kitty is part drama queen and part neurotic prone to fits of delusions that are sidesplittingly funny. Kids and adults will enjoy reading this book together. Bruel also offers the reader a wealth of information in the form of "Fun Facts". For example, one fun fact section is entitled, "Why are Cats Afraid of Vacuum Cleaners?" In this well illustrated book, there is also a graphic component with comics interspersed throughout. I see reluctant readers of all types eating these books up.

We thought this was hilarious!  Bad Kitty is very mean to Uncle Murray when he is petsitting.   Uncle Murray didn't feed the animals for 20 minutes, Bad Kitty was so hungry that she tried to eat the puppy's leg that looked like turkey.  It was also funny when all of the cats from the neighborhood attacked Uncle Murray, one even had a spatula. The end was surprising and made us want to read more.  We recommend this to children and adults who like to laugh at silly animals.
