Overview

Worlds collide when a wealthy heiress meets a journalist with writer’s block in this steamy Western romance set in the Colorado badlands.

A fiery desert flower and an irresistible cowboy steam up the Wild, Wild West in Adrianne Wood’s rip-roaring romantic debut.

Lily Highfill has spent eight years in Colorado, exiled from her wealthy, high-society Boston family. With a long-awaited invitation to return home finally in hand, she’s doing all she can to secure her betrothal to a charming and cultured gentleman. But with just a few weeks left at her grandfather’s fossil expedition, a rugged and handsome stranger rides in on horseback, stirring up trouble . . . and excavating a place for himself in her heart. Free-spirited journalist Mason Donnelly came to the frontier to cure his writers’ block, unaware the badlands offered such tempting distractions. Lily is as breathtaking as a Western sunset. But she’s also as delicate as a bowie knife. The more Mason digs up about the suspicious bone-hunters she works for, the more the feisty heiress derails his plans. If he exposes the priceless secrets hidden deep in the desert, will he lose his only chance with the sensuous diamond in the rough?

About the Author

Adrianne Wood is an East Coast transplant to the gorgeous Northwest. A veteran of the book publishing industry, Adrianne is one of the lucky few who managed to parlay her English degree into an actual job. After eight years in go-go-go New York City, she and her husband moved to Seattle, bought a lawnmower and grill, and promptly started a family. The nonhuman members of Adrianne's family include two gentlemen cats and sometimes foster kittens, all of which like to fight for space on her lap while she reads.

I was drawn into this book from the first paragraph and couldn't put it down until I was finished (thank goodness for a snowy weekend!) Badlands Bride has it all -- mystery, romance, and an absolutely fantastic surprise ending. The characters are multi-faceted; the dialog is sharp; and it's written in such a vivid way that I felt like I was truly transported to the Wild West. Read this book -- you'll be glad you did!

I really enjoyed Wood's first book, "Unruly Hearts," but "Badlands Bride" is even better. Set during an archaeological dig in Colorado, the book's action takes off when famed journalist Mason Donnelly visits the dig camp and finds himself entranced - and irritated! - by Lily Highfill, the smart and headstrong granddaughter of the dig's benefactor. The scenes between Mason and Lily are charged with sexual tension and humor, against a great backdrop of the Wild West, with interesting secondary characters (I particularly liked the dig's artifact collector, Dickon, an older gentleman with a lost love story of his own. "Badlands Bride" is a great, fast-paced, sexy and fun read, and I highly recommend it!!

For a change of pace, Wood's novel is a good buy. It has a twist in the end that I was excited to not have guessed. While I can't give it more stars, it will be well worth the time and money you spend to read it.

Fairly typical good guy, bad guy, good guy wins the girl, but with an interesting twist that keeps a person reading. Set in the west instead of big city which adds interest.

The pacing is good, the story line different from most set in this time period. Characters are strong and identifiable. First time reading this author, so will check out future stories by her.

I started reading this book because it's set in Colorado, and involves a paleontological dig. I got half-way through it, and it was really just all about the slow dance of the two main characters towards love. I'm sure there will be many readers who have no problem with that, but I wanted a bit more going on besides the love story.

For some reason I thought this was going to be a cowboy quick read but it surprized me. It is about a yoing woman who.is.somewhat in the vangard of Women's Lib...taking on a job at an archeological site. Her romantic interest is sort od a.burned out Mark Twain. There are some snappy exchanges and a good solid twist at the end. A worthwhile read for most everyone.

Not a very compelling or interesting story, but for $2.99 I don't feel too bad about the purchase, just the waste of my time reading.
