Danielle Fournier M.Sc.
Perinatal care educator
Creator of Ballon Forme Couples Method ©
and co-founder of Ballon Forme
This little book is a precious tool to give out to parents who want to do everything possible to experience natural childbirth.
The “Ballon Forme Couples Method ©” developed by Danielle Fournier has 3 main focuses: first and foremost, introducing movement in the process of labor. The more we move, the more we participate. And the more we participate, the more power we have over ourselves.
Next, this method implies the participation of a partner. So right from the start, the notion of isolation is excluded. When the partner is the father-to-be, he too plays a role in helping the mother pursue her own personal pain management, which definitely reinforces the complicity between the two parents.
Finally, this book emphasizes on the importance of spontaneity when using the ball. Essentially; it all comes down to building the mother-to-be’s self confidence.

About the Author
Passionate about perinatal care for over 30 years, Danielle got a perinatal training from Mrs Joanne Dussault*, professor and author, when she became pregnant in 1984 and wished to give birth to her first child in water. Mrs Dussault, very interested by this new birthing technique, played an important role in helping Danielle live this unique experience in collaboration with Dr Desmond Paradis, gynecologist and obstetrician at Centre Hospitalier Pierre-Boucher, and thanks to the incredible generosity of internationally renowned Dr Michel Odent, eminent surgeon and obstetrician.
At that time, Danielle was doing her Master’s degree in Exercise Science (Sciences de l’activité physique) and decided to focus her thesis on the effects of physical activity on the process of childbirth. From her ten years’ experience as a teacher at Ballets-Jazz de Montréal, combined with her studies and her first childbirth experience, she created a whole new prenatal dance technique. Further to that she gave prenatal and postnatal dance classes for over 20 years. During this period, the family grew as Danielle experienced two other natural childbirths. The last baby was born at home, under the supervision of a midwife, Mrs Céline Lemay. In 2002, a long time friend, Louise Kanemy, physical educator and creator of a complete exercise ball program, initiated Danielle to the ball. She fell in love instantly! From there a new passion was born. Danielle adapted all of her material for this new tool; she created the Ballon Forme Couples Method © and together, they founded the Ballon Forme company. In 2014, Danielle submitted a thesis to Université de Montréal, regarding the effects of training with a birthing ball during pregnancy on childbirth outcomes.
Danielle gave training sessions to the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine, Hôpital St-Luc du CHUM de Montréal, Hôpital LaSalle, Centre Hospitalier Cité de la santé de Laval, Maison de naissance du Haut-Richelieu and Hôpital de Morges in Switzerland during some clinics on relief of pain in obstetric wards and to perinatal specialists in Canada, France, Switzerland, Belgium and South America. She strongly believes in natural childbirth and this is what always guided her. This is why she is happy to share her experience by offering the Ballon Forme Couples Method © to those who wish to go through natural childbirth with the help of the birthing ball.
Today, Danielle Fournier offers Prenatal Ballon Forme classes to pregnant women, Postnatal Ballon Forme classes to new mothers, as well as training sessions to couples who wish to use the birthing ball during labor and delivery via the Ballon Forme Couples Method ©. She also offers training to perinatal care educators (midwives, nurses, and doulas) who wish to prepare and support couples with the birthing ball and finally, she trains future Prenatal and Postnatal Ballon Forme trainors.
