Ash's beginnings as a criminal are revealed in a heart-wrenching retelling by his father. After dire circumstances finally cause Ash and his father to show some affection for one another, the gang flees cross-country to California. Nice research on the new location except for the fact there are no secluded mansions in Westwood. A new villain is introduced as Chinatown turns on our unfortunate heroes, promising lots more shoot-outs and action sequences. They finally find out what banana fish is, though the audience has known for a while. A scrap to make their sacrifices so far worth it before things go to hell again. Great pacing, though none of the 'surprises' this book really were apart from Ash's childhood.
