Bananas Foster and a Dead Mobster by A. Gardner

From #1 bestselling culinary cozy mystery author A. Gardner comes another Poppy Peters adventure...

Reluctant sleuth Poppy Peters is back in Georgia, and her last semester of pastry school is no icing on the cake when a body is discovered at the local farmer's market, and the murder weapon has Poppy's name on it. Not to mention, the victim belonged to a deadly southern crime family. Now, Poppy is being tailed by the mafia, and it doesn't help that the school's new pastry instructor has her working with her worst rival. But after a heart-stopping car chase, a frightening discovery at an old jam factory, and a spontaneous trip to New Orleans, Poppy discovers a secret that makes her past feats look like a piece of peach pie. Poppy's chances of making it to graduation day are about to go up in flames just like her Bananas Foster.

This cozy mystery stars Poppy Peters, culinary student, who unfortunately seems to stumble into murder scenes while trying to succeed at her schoolwork. She is aided by her good friend, Bree, her classmate (and rival) Georgina, and an erstwhile friend/boyfriend, Cole. She frequently runs afoul of the local Detective, Derek Reid, by snooping and interrupting the investigation scenes. During this mystery, Poppy and classmates are at a Whole Food Market demonstrating their pastry making skills when a patron is found stabbed in the back. It is determined he is a member of organized crime. Poppy's culinary knife is the murder weapon, which fuels her attempts to solve the mystery. There are several secondary characters who are involved in pushing the plot forward, such as Chef Otto and the Soap Sisters, who appear to have motives for the murder. This is a cute story, with really mild sexual content ( a couple of kisses) and a bit of violence ( nothing really graphic) The ending is satisfying and surprising. I also enjoyed the recipes at the end of the book. I recommend this book.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked the characters and found this book to be a fun read!

Pleasant, cozy mystery. The way characters talk sometimes does not seem likely for either the south, or the northwest, where Poppy is from. I've lived both places. Mystery was a bit unlikely, in my opinion, but I enjoyed it over all.

Poppy, now in bakery chef school, finds her knife has been stolen and used to murder a man. Much to Detective Reid’s dismay she helps find the murderer. The story has numerous twists that keep the reader guessing and not wanting to put the book down until done. The ending has several unexpected surprises without making the reader feeling like there is more to the story.

really enjoyed reading this book. Poppy is a real sleuth but why does she always find the bodies? The story unfolds around my favorite things...food. When it comes to Poppy with food comes mayhem and murder and this book doesn't let you down. There are surprises and twists all throughout this book and legitimate concern for the characters. Plus...read to the end for the biggest and best surprise yet....RECIPES!!!! Always a crowd favorite. Make a recipe and enjoy while perusing the pages of the mystery
