Useful, even given the youthful nature of the authors. Banff and Jasper have a wide range of appeals to all different types and age groups but their approach was more geared toward the bohemian set (read: young and with limited resources). For example, their description of the Rimrock Resort in Banff as a 'concrete eyesore' was unfair and totally undeserving given the quality of the hotel, it having the best views from any hotel room in all of Banff and possibly in all of British Columbia. Perhaps they labeled it as such because it was out of their price range. Also, the listings of establishments was inconsistent so it is best to get literature once you are in the Towns of Banff or Jasper. Finally, the hiking trails were poorly defined in terms of difficulty ratings. Clearly, one person's moderate is another person's easy and vice versa. At the end of our trip and based on their ratings, we chose only difficult trails because the easy and moderate ones, based on their ratings, barely required a pulse. We are mature but fit and healthy. Interesting that this guide delivered for the kids in its assessment of restaurants and bars but missed the boat in its assessment of hiking trail difficulty for the more fit amongst us.
