Barefoot Contessa Family Style: Easy Ideas and Recipes That Make Everyone Feel Like Family by Ina Garten

Ina Garten, who shared her gift for casual entertaining in the bestselling Barefoot Contessa Cookbook and Barefoot Contessa Parties!, is back with her most enticing recipes yet—a collection of her favorite dishes for everyday cooking. In Barefoot Contessa Family Style, Ina explains that sharing our lives and tables with those we love is too essential to be saved just for special occasions—and it’s easy to do if you know how to cook irresistible meals with a minimum of fuss.

For Ina, the best way to make guests feel at home is to serve them food that’s as unpretentious as it is delicious. So in her new book, she’s collected the recipes that please her friends and family most—dishes like East Hampton Clam Chowder, Parmesan Roasted Asparagus, and Linguine with Shrimp Scampi. It’s the kind of fresh, accessible food that’s meant to be passed around the table in big bowls or platters and enjoyed with warm conversation and laughter.

In Ina’s hands tried-and-true dishes are even more delicious than you remember them: Her arugula salad is bright with the flavors of lemon and Parmesan, the Oven-Fried Chicken is crispy without excess fat, and her Deep-Dish Apple Pie has the perfect balance of fruit and spice. Barefoot Contessa Family Style also includes enticing recipes that are memorable and distinctive, like Lobster Cobb Salad, Tequila Lime Chicken, and Saffron Risotto with Butternut Squash.

With vivid photographs of Ina cooking and serving food in her beautiful Hamptons home, as well as menu suggestions, practical wisdom on what to do when disaster strikes in the kitchen, and tips on creating an inviting ambience with music, Barefoot Contessa Family Style is the must-have guide to the joy of everyday entertaining.

This is by far Ina's best cookbook and I have 'em all! These recipes are more practical than some of her other books. The meatballs and Parker's Fish and Chips are staples in our home. I have 4 children that are very hard to please, but they eat almost anything that I make from this cookbook!

This is the second Ina cookbook I have purchased and I love this one even more than the first. The recipes are delicious, everytime I make any of her recipes, I'm always the star! I love this book so much I will be giving it as a gift this Christmas to my mom!

Ina's recipies always turn out perfect the first time I try them. The recipies are easy to understand and reproduce even for a novice cook. I get the most consistent results from Ina's books and I love them all. I really love that she includes tips on planning the meals and dinner parties as well. This is a great cookbook and I highly recommend it!

I work in a well known cooking store and everyone recommends Ina's books. We use them every day at home and haven't had a less than mouth watering result. The ingredients are easy to find and those you probably have any way. Ina rocks!

Ina really understands that food is the ultimate celebration of family and friends. No other daily ritual brings people together like a delicious, home-cooked meal cooked with real love and passion. The recipes are great and within the skill level of most cooks. It's a pleasure to cook with this book.

Ina's cookbooks are the best (and I have a few). The recipes are relatively simple. She doesn't use a laundry list of ingredients and the ones she uses are easy to find and a plus is that she tells what brands she uses and where you can get them. Most of all they taste great!

A good cook book for do-able recipes. I made the chicken wings and while it was an easy recipe, I can't say they were bursting with flavor. Most of the recipes have ingredients that are readily avaliable and can be made without a lot of fuss. It is not a volumous book, I would like more to it as far as the number of recipes. Worth looking at though.

If you do not have Ina's first book, The Barefoot Contessa, you must buy this one. It is very good. However, if you do have her first book, buy this one as a gift for a friend. The recipes are easy and, as always, tasty. They are not however quite so "home style" as the book suggests. I make many of these recipes often, but I love cooking and making a mess in the kitchen. But not everyone does. These are not the sort of dishes most people would want to make after a hard day at the office. (For me it's relaxing.)

Her recipes are simple but delicious. I hope she makes a cookbook for vegetarians soon, as well as a baking one.

Ina Garten is my favorite Food Network personality. I love the way she takes elegant food and makes is simple to prepare. I also appreciate her ability to re-create dishes to suit available fresh ingredients. LOVE this cookbook.

I have had this book for almost a year now, and have used countless recipes. From the Roasted Vegetable Soup to the Blueberry Muffins, if you follow the easy instructions, you are guarenteed to have a winner! The food depicted in this book has been appealing to everyone in my family, who are particularly picky eaters. This book will be a culinary staple for many years to come.

while I enjoyed reading the editorial content of this book, I didn't find it to meet the expectations I had from the previous 2 Barefoot Contessa books. Barefoot Contessa Parties! is a far superior work. It seems to me that many of the recipes are rehashed from the previous books: Roasted Winter Vegetables, Orange Pound cake. I have made some favorites over and over again from the original books: pecan squares, the cream cheese frosting, chicken chilli, corn chowder, apple crostada. I've owned this book since it's release date and to date have made only one recipe from it: The sagaponack corn pudding which was very enjoyable. The recipes aren't simple enough for everyday or special enough for special occasions. In short, I expected a GREAT book and got an average one.
