Best last page of a book I have ever read! Barney's Version was the first Richler book I had read - loved his cantankerous humour

I can't believe this book didn't get any more attention than it has so far. Mordecai Richler's unique yet familiar perspective (an urban Jew in the New World, only Canada instead of the U.S. northeast) is at once dense, comedic, and heart-wrenching. And the ending to this book: I shook my head in amazement for about two days (and probably cried a little, too). One note: If you read Richler's first great novel, 'The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz' first, you'll enjoy Barney's Version just a little more than you would otherwise. P.S. 'The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz' was also a pretty good movie with a young Richard Dreyfuss as Duddy.
