'Bastian' is book 6 in the New Vampire Disorder series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but I think you would get so much more enjoyment out of it if you read the other books in the series first. As usual Marie never disappoints in this series. She really works hard to make sure both male and female characters are never cookie cutter repeat versions in each book. This one is no different. Bastian is not a prime male, but is actually a servant, definitely lower on the food chain in their world. Ophelia is a prime female, so definitely above him in all the ways that matter in their world. That doesn't seem to stop two such wonderful characters from getting together. I loved Bastian from the beginning. He's definitely the type of male that women read these stories for. Ophelia is a warrior, but is also a broken woman, who has a tragic past. Needless to say Bastian helps her get over it while fighting demons from the underworld together. The sex scenes between these two sizzle, and the affection is clear, even though poor Ophelia tries to fight it all the way. Bastian is a strong male, confident and assured of his place in the lower ranks of vampire society, yet he is the ying to Ophelia's yang. They're absolutely perfect for each other. Marie has another winner on her hands with the latest installment of the New Vampire Disorder series. Just don't start reading it late at night because you may end up doing what I did, staying up all night reading 'just one more chapter.'
