About the Author

Richard H. McBee Jr. received his B.S. in Zoology from Oregon State University in 1966, his M.S, in Zoology from Montana State in 1972 and his M.A. in Educational Leadership from The University of Alabama in 1994. He has been an active shell collector all his life and was fortunate to be in Venezuela for an extended period of employment which allowed him to do four years of extensive work on his collection of shells of the Caribbean. Subsequently, as an active scuba diver he has taken at least one trip to the Caribbean each year for over ten years to enjoy that sport and enhance his collection of seashells. He has authored two other books: Rough Enough, a work of non-fiction about the Civil War, and Kalahari, an African adventure thriller, a work of fiction, set during the time of Nelson Mandela.
All the photographs were taken by the author from his reference specimens. The shell collection upon which this book is based is currently in the author's possession at his home in Oregon.
