As a avid reader of military history, and a professional infantryman in the United States Marine Corps, I must say this is one of the finest books on the subject I have ever read. Written prior to Vietnam, and the subsiquent studies concerning post-tramatic stress disorder(shell-shock), this book in it's incredable reading style portrays the almost insurmountable mental and physical challenges war presents for the young infantryman in modern combat. It is my opinion that the only way one can write so accuratley about such a subject is to have experienced it himself.

One the best stories I O One the best stories of wwii soldiers i have read From reading this you understand why they did not talk about it and why 60 years later they still gathered and treated each as brothers Dale

I like gritty war stories that tell the feelings of the soldiers. This does just that. Young kids sent to war not really understanding what they are there for.
