Beautiful Lawman: A Devil's Rock Novel by Sophie Jordan

“Sophie Jordan excels at writing sizzling hot reads!” New York Times Bestselling Author Jill Shalvis

From the wrong side of the tracks and with most of her family in jail or dead, Piper Walsh is used to everyone in town thinking the worst about her. It doesn’t seem to matter that she’s worked hard to build a good life for herself. So she isn’t surprised that when she comes into contact with Sweet Hill’s wildly irresistible, arrogant sheriff, Hale Walters, they’re instant adversaries. Piper has nothing in common with the town golden-boy-turned-lawman—and she refuses to be a notch on his bedpost.

Despite rumors, Hale avoids fooling around with the women of Sweet Hill, many of whom are hoping to get him to the altar. But staying out of Piper’s path is proving near impossible. The infuriating troublemaker clearly has no respect for his badge. As she continues to push his buttons, it becomes clear to Hale that he must either arrest Piper—or claim her as his own.

Her writing flows, not rushed and you get absorbed into the story.

This book is about Piper and her past and her family name. Piper has to take care of her little sister because of her mother and father being dead and her brother being in Jail. The only job Piper could get was in a strip club because of her family name. Piper was just waiting tables to pay the bills and buy food.

Good read

So far this one is my favorite of this series. More realistic than Knox and Reid's stories, I was surprised that having a cop the hero instead of the convict wouldn't work as well, but Hale more than delivered! I also loved that Piper "saved" herself but still held onto her personality.

Love this series, but I wasn't sure about a lawman instead of a convict, being the hero this time. I was so wrong. Not only did this tie in perfectly with the rest of the series, but Hale was absolutely yummy! Definitely recommend.

Love this series! Piper is a strong heroine who is trying to take of her sister and keep her dignity. The chemistry between Piper and Hale is above the charts hot! But the scene in the private dance room was a bit unbelievable.....scorching but still....can't believe they both lost their minds like that. It was funny how they both fought their attraction to each other but in the end, Hale is such a hero! He is always there for Piper without seeming weak and Piper falls in trust and love with him! I've loved every book in the series and can't wait until the next one.....hopefully it will be about Piper's brother?!

***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog*** Beautiful Lawman by Sophie Jordan Book Four of the Devil's Rock series Publisher: Avon Publication Date: December 26, 2017 Rating: 5 stars Source: ARC sent by publicist Summary (from Goodreads): From the wrong side of the tracks and with most of her family in jail or dead, Piper Walsh is used to everyone in town thinking the worst about her. What I Liked: I've been extremely excited about this book ever since I'd heard that Jordan was contracted to write more books in the series. I'd read the first three books and absolutely loved them, especially the third one, which introduced us to Piper. There is one single interaction between Piper and Hale in Fury on Fire, and it's hilarious because Piper dumps ice water all over Hale's lap at the club she works at. Beautiful Lawman is Hale and Piper's story and it does not disappoint. Piper Walsh is used to having a certain reputation, thanks to other members of her family. No one will hire her, so she's stuck working the bar at a club - which she hates. She has never had to do anything other than serve drinks, but she needs more money if she is going to continue to support her fifteen-year-old sister and herself. Hale Walters is the town sheriff who seems to have it in for Piper. To him, Piper is a troublemaker who keeps popping up on his radar. Neither of them want to admit it at first, but there is a simmering attraction between. They might dance around each other and infuriate each other, but there's no denying their need for each other. Friends, this was such a good romance story. Some tropes: enemies to lovers, damsel in distress (kind of?). I personally don't mind the damsel in distress trope at all - sometimes, a girl needs saving and a guy is perfect for the job. We can't always save ourselves, and even if we can, it's nice that someone else is there to do so. And the enemies to lovers trope - definitely one of my favorites! There's something about the animosity and the bickering and the tension that is so fun to read. All of that negative passion becoming positively charged passion can be exciting. Jordan pulls that off perfectly, in this book! Hale was kind of a jerk in Fury on Fire, but not in an unforgivable way. He was clearly looking out for his sister Faith, and I can't fault him for that. In this book, he still has his golden-boy, commanding demeanor, but we see a lot more to him than his looks and his authoritative figure. He's a genuinely good guy, even if he completely misjudged Piper. Read the rest of my review on my blog, The Eater of Books! - eaterofbooks DOT blogspot DOT com :)

2.5 stars Hate to love + Sophie Jordan = something I had to read. Sadly I was pretty disappointed. I really liked Piper and Hale. She’s strong and has a great work ethic and desperately wants to provide a safe life for her sister. Hale is loyal and has a lot of good intentions. Together there is chemistry, but there needed to be some actual conversation. Plot wise is where I struggled. I didn’t see the relationship between Piper and Hale progress to love, it just seemed like a whole lot of lust. And there was an entire thread of plot about Piper’s brother (and Piper getting drugged with the intent to be raped) that felt clunky. I get the need for conflict, but it was rushed and underdeveloped. Overall, it had something that kept me reading, but I wish there would have been more. I doubt I’ll be reading any other books in the series. **Huge thanks to Avon Books for providing the arc free of charge**

This story is about misconceptions and drawing the wrong conclusions from that confusion. And the very best part of this story? The resisting each other all the while! I adore this author. She crafts incredible characters that feel like friends you care what happens to. She weaves interesting stories that take turns you don't expect. She draws the story to a close with a satisfying ending that ties up the loose ends. When one of her books releases, it needs to needs to be on your TBR list. Piper. She's been holding things together in her family for a while now. Taking custody of her sister at age 18, she does what she has to do to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. But she has a line she hasn't crossed. And she doesn't defend herself to anyone that doesn't get her. Her family name is mud and she isn't gonna argue with those that don't get things. She's strong and hard working. She loves her sister and her brother. She sets aside her dreams for the dreams of her sister. I love her. I cheered for her. I ended up being, oh so, happy for her. Hale thinks he knows Piper. He doesn't. But he's a good man at heart and when it came down to doing the right thing, he did it. Every women in a 50 mile radius is after him. They bring him cake. They hope for his attention. But there is only one women that keeps drawing his attention. But he can't let himself be tempted. Yeah, good luck with that. I love Hale too. He's a worthy book boyfriend. This one definitely needs to find it's way to your TBR list and devoured as soon as you can. Just good stuff.
