About the Author

Sophie Jordan grew up on a pecan farm in the Texas hill country, where she wove fantasies of dragons, warriors, and princesses. A former high school English teacher, she's also the New York Times bestselling author of Avon historical romances and the Firelight series. She now lives in Houston with her family. When she's not writing, she spends her time overloading on caffeine (lattes and Diet cherry Coke preferred), talking plotlines with anyone who will listen (including her kids), and cramming her DVR with true-crime and reality-TV shows.

Beautiful Sinner can be read as a standalone book, but I’d recommend reading Beautiful Lawman which follows Piper, the hero’s younger sister. If you ever plan of reading Piper’s story, I do believe Beautiful Sinner does spoil her story a bit. For seven years Cruz went to prison for a crime he never committed to protect his sister. When the real criminal confesses he is exonerate and remains in town despite everyone being so wary of him. He somehow gets stuck in the janitors closet with Gabby who had a major crush on him in high school and who shared a secret kiss with him years ago. Cruz never knew who kissed him years ago, but once he finds out it was Gabby, he isn’t letting her go even if she is the related to the woman he confessed to killing seven years ago. This is the first ever book I requested from a publisher when I started blogging. Why? Because I’m a huge fan of the Devil’s Rock series by Sophie Jordan. It’s a hot and sexy small town series with men who’ve been incarcerated. And Beautiful Sinner didn’t disappoint me. Cruz was as hot and male as I expected him to be. Once he figured out that Gabby was the mysterious girl who kissed him in high school, he pursues her relentlessly even though she is reluctant. Gabby has always had self esteem issues. She was made fun of in high school and always wanted to get away from her small town. She moved to be a reporter in Austin but her career never took off like she thought it would so she returns home to take care of her grandmother. Her insecurities came off as real and believable. She took steps to overcome them but being surrounded by people who knew the insecure girl she was made it harder for her stand up for herself. I liked her growth throughout the book, coming to terms of who she was and learned to face her old fears and not runaway anymore. There wasn’t much plot outside of the romance or much to do with Gabby’s job and needing to interview Cruz for the newspaper she works at. This wasn’t a problem to me since it gave Gabby and Cruz plenty of steamy time together Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a paperback copy. In no way does this influences my review.

***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog*** Beautiful Sinner by Sophie Jordan Book Five of the Devil's Rock series Publisher: Avon Books Publication Date: October 30, 2018 Rating: 4 stars Source: eARC from Edelweiss Summary (from Goodreads): Locked in with the town bad boy . . . Most women would be scared, but Gabriella’s only worried about resisting Cruz Walsh, who’s even hotter than he was back in high school. Cruz was wrongly accused of the high-profile crime for which he was imprisoned; Gabriella’s desperate for the scoop that will get her career off the ground and get her out of Sweet Hill, where everyone still remembers her as “Flabby Gabby.” Being stuck in a supply closet with Cruz is the perfect opportunity to land an interview. What Bri doesn’t count on is Cruz taking “up-close and personal” to a whole new level. If there’s a silver lining to the hell Cruz went through, it’s that losing his freedom put everything in perspective. Maybe starting over someplace new would be easier, but after years locked up, Cruz values his family—and his true friends—more than ever. So he’s back home, facing the gossip, dodging reporters . . . and face-to-face with Gabriella Rossi. They’ve both changed: Bri wants a story and Cruz just wants her. Another thing he’s learned? Don’t let a good thing slip away. What I Liked: I've been in a bit of a reading slump, and I decided to pick up this book even though it doesn't publish for another month and a half. I love this series - books one and four are my favorite, but all four are great - and I had a feeling that this fifth book would be excellent. I believe this is the final book in the series, and it's a great concluding story. This is Cruz's story; Cruz is the older brother of Piper (heroine of Beautiful Lawman). He is a good friend of Knox and North (they went to high school together, and went to jail for the same incident, though with varying offenses). This book is set approximately six months after the ending of Beautiful Lawman - so Cruz has been free for six months. He's living in Sweet Hill, he owns his own home, and he opened a gym in the town. He's doing well, except most citizens of Sweet Hill still treat him like he was the one who killed Shelley Rae, seven years ago. Enter Gabriella Rossi, who went to high school with Cruz. She has always had a crush on him, and never believed that he killed Shelley Rae. She has been living in Austin, but moved back to Sweet Hill to live next door to her grandmother and take care of her, post-surgery. Gabriella doesn't expect to run into Cruz, or to feel the immense attraction she used to feel when she was in high school. What she doesn't know is that Cruz also crushed on her in high school, and years later, he hasn't gotten her out of his mind. This was a unique love story. We have two people who never dated, were never friends, never interacted much, but went to high school together, and crushed on each other. Cruz was always the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Gabriella was always the smart, good girl who was going places. Twelve years later, life has stalled for both of them, in different ways. But life has a way of surprising everyone. Being that this is book 5 in a series that I never heard of before, it sure caught my attention from that first page until I read that very last word. You have this woman named Gabriella who gets locked up in a closet at the local school with known bad boy, Cruz who was just released from prison. From there it only gets hotter from the chemistry between them. But not all is well with Gabriella's family who's cousin was murdered with Cruz taken the fall for the murder. With all the family drama and chemistry, it will lead to an ending that will leave you wanting more! I didn't realize when I received this book that it was part of a series and being the 5th one in the line, I really like to start my series from the beginning but this book was made to feel like a standalone book so it all worked out in the end! Knowing now what this series is about and what the Author can do to bring out all these emotions, this series and Author is on my TBR list now! The only thing I really had a problem with was, all the sex scenes that could have been toned down a bit without losing that chemistry that these two characters have for each other! Thank You to Sophie Jordan for this good book in a series that I need to read more of!! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the Publisher!

Hello, Cruz. Wow, I flew through this novel. Cruz--loyal, guarded, and irresistible--would do anything to protect his family, including time behind bars for a crime he never committed. Now exonerated and free, he comes face-to-face with Gabriella, the girl of his dreams. Getting locked in a closet overnight with her isn't part of his plan. Neither is being unable to stop thinking about the brunette. But will the good girl from his past ever really give him a chance? Though Gabriella never had the pleasure of calling Cruz hers back in high school, it didn't stop her from imagining what the two of them would be like as a couple. Now that he's free, and seemingly interested in her, she can't believe her luck. But there's a small problem. She's a reporter. He hates reporters. And to make matters worse, her boss is pressing for Gabriella to get Cruz's story. But what if she wants more than a story from him? An excellent, fast-paced romance read simmering with heat and redemption.

The last place Gabriella Rossi wants to be is in Sweet Hill, but when she learns that her grandmother needs help after surgery she knows she will have to get over her issues with the little town, and make a visit. Being in town brings up all the bad memories that she ran from, the hurtful nicknames, and the constant teasing from classmates. But there is one bright spot from her high school years... Cruz Walsh. From the moment her eyes landed on him a major crush took hold, but he was the boy from the wrong side of the tracks and she was “Flabby Gabby," the chubby girl no one wanted. Cruz Walsh has returned to Sweet Hill with many reservations, he has just spent the last seven years of his life in prison for a crime he didn't commit, and he is sure there is going to be a whole host of drama waiting for him. Not to mention that there are still some people in town who aren't completely convinced of his innocence. His family welcomes him home with open arms, and he is determined to change the views of the folks in town, by showing them that he is a good man, one that can be trusted. What he doesn't expect to find in Sweet Hill is his crush from high school, Gabby Rossi is back in town, and this time he doesn't plan on letting her slip away... Between the pages of this captivating book you will find a heartfelt and uber steamy tale that is certain to leave you thoroughly satisfied! These two wounded souls, who just so happened to crush on one another back in the day, are summoned back to the place where it all started. But this time things will be different, Cruz wants his girl, and he will go to great lengths to win her heart... and he goes above and beyond!! This was my first visit to the series, and I am happy to report this little reunion did not disappoint... it was HOT!!! Highly recommend you get your hands on this one, these two will keep you flying through the pages and smiling throughout! I requested an advanced copy of this title, via Edelweiss, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

3.5 stars I didn’t realize that I had read the previous book in this series, so I went into this one a bit concerned that I might not like it. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked Gabriella and Cruz. They’re both so similar: they’re loyal and genuinely good people. I loved that they both had feelings since high school and that the chemistry was still intact. There were a fair amount of other characters, but no one stole the show like Garbriella’s Nana. Plot wise, it was okay. The surrounding drama was a bit much for me, but I guess it was sort of understandable. I was amused by all of the times they were interrupted and while they did spend a lot of time together, I think I wanted more conversation. Overall, it was a quick and enjoyable read with characters who were easy to root for. I’m definitely interested in the next story. FYI: there is a scene of forced groping and gross d-baggery. **Huge thanks to Avon Books for providing the arc free of charge**
