About the Author

For the better part of the past fifteen years I have been an educator, informal personal trainer, and ardent aficionado of craft beer. Between 2006 and the present I have visited more than 130 different breweries and have sampled more than 3,500 different beers. Over the past few years my craft beer blog, The Beer Whisperers, has amassed nearly 200,000 unique page views with entries ranging from beer and brewery reviews to more diverse topics such as planning a craft beer-centric road trip and cooking with beer. The associated social media accounts have been successful in garnering attention with the Twitter account being followed by more than 50 breweries from around the world including nearly a dozen of the Top 50 Breweries in the United States as listed by the Brewers Association.

From a fitness perspective, I am a lifelong athlete and have engaged in informal personal training and fitness guidance for nearly two decades. I learned the ropes of weightlifting and fitness from some of the best high school coaches in Brooklyn and then studied at the feet of several fitness instructors at Baruch College gleaning the knowledge necessary to maintain my own overall level of good health while instructing and inspiring others on how to do the same. Still, my years of commuting to and from college and the ensuing shift to a sedentary lifestyle filled with office and classroom work led inexorably to significant weight gain. Ultimately, I found my way, shedding the nearly fifty pounds that I had gained since graduating college despite sampling more than 3,200 new craft beers during that time.

My unique potpourri of experience has proved invaluable in both my personal and professional lives and enables me to write confidently and cogently on the subjects of craft beer and physical and mental fitness. Now, armed with the know-how that I have gained and my background in motivation, I am ready to help others in the same position that I had found myself in terms of weight loss and to enlighten others still who wish to learn more about the world of craft beer.

I am also the author of the Kosmogonia novel series. For more information please visit my website at: http://www.matthewjohnbenecke.com
