This is one of the most poorly-written books I have ever read. Wish I could get my money back for this stinker. There are almost too many things wrong, I don't know where to begin. The writing is terrible, with the author using the wrong words constantly, and he or she has a clunky style, the story doesn't flow well at all. The "heroine," Veronica, is an idiot, plain and simple. She persists in keeping crucial information about one of the suspects from the investigators when it doesn't make sense to do so. What an airhead. She's not smart, or likeable, or tough, or anything. I just wanted to slap her. Also, there's no explanation later on for the weird behavior of her brother-in-law who comes on to her for no apparent reason. She never tells her sister, and this "plot point(!)" is never resolved. And the whole thing with the black vans with EAGLES painted on them? Really? And we're supposed to believe that not one, but two people have one? That part seemed like it would've made more sense in the 80s when everybody drove those black vans with the porthole windows. Just lots of things bugged me about this book, I can't recommend it. PLEASE don't waste your time or money.

Before He Kills Again is indeed  a very entertaining read, one of those suspense thrillers that will keep you turning pages late into the night. At least, this was my case. I finished it in 2-3 days, as I couldn’t put it down. The heroine, criminal psychologist and FBI profiler Veronica Vasquez, is a sympathetic character, smart and independent but with a gentle side. I found all the information about serial killers fascinating, and thoroughly enjoyed all the setups, twists and red herrings devised by the author. Just when you think you know who the killer is, something happens to deter you from suspecting. The love story between Veronica and Homicide detective Bryan Waldicott  adds some spice without getting in the way of the mystery. The novel does have some graphic violent scenes, so if you’re squeamish about this sort of thing, be warned. If you’re a fan of thrillers about serial killers, you should pick this one up!

Having watched criminologist R. Barri Flowers on Investigation Discovery, I was intrigued to read his latest thriller novel and was not disappointed. BEFORE HE KILLS AGAIN is a heart pounding thriller about an FBI profiler matching wits with a scary serial killer. Flowers' shows his knowledge on real serial killers in carving out his crafty villain, separating from other writers who rely on pure imagination in their serial killers. Highly recommended, along with the author's thriller titles, KILLER IN THE WOODS, MURDER IN MAUI, and DARK STREETS OF WHITECHAPEL.
