About the Author

Building on a background of fantasy game design, a fascination with history, and a lifetime love of books, award-winning author Claire Ashgrove brings to life action-filled, passionate journeys of the heart. Her paranormal series, The Curse of the Templars, marries the history of the Knights Templar with the chilling aspirations of the most unholy--a must-read for speculative fiction fans. She also writes as the National Bestselling Author Tori St. Claire and historical romance author Sophia Garrett.

In her non-writing time, she runs Finish The Story, a full-scale editing house co-founded with Bryan Thomas Schmidt. She lives in Missouri and enjoys cooking, studying ancient civilizations, and spending downtime with her two sons and too-many horses, cats, and dogs.

Just beyond the human realm is a magical world and mystical peoples that could finally answer all Halle Rhoads’ questions. She knows she’s a murderer, not that her abusive father didn't deserve to die, but it did exile her from the only life and family she ever knew into the cold harsh world to exist by her wits and the seat of her pants. Seven years later while checking on her baby sister and planning yet another murder she’s literally run over by a guy who can finally answer some of those questions, Kale Norwood who tells her of her ancient inherent, frightening, exhilarating gifted power from a long ago race of beings. He’s a guy who may be all she’s looking for, or who could betray her. She will come to realize that even if she lets him into her heart her loner’s existence may not be a choice at all but a path that's been set for her by ancestors and powers she’s yet but destined to discover, that is of course if she survives the trials to come. Claire Ashgrove’s debut page-turner in her new urban fantasy series is fantastic. She creates a world that’s familiar enough to not need a codex to understand yet foreign enough to awe. Her narrative is absorbing and provocative and will captivate her audience while telling her poignant and wondrous tale and it’s evident by the last page that this is not the end of the story. Her heroine Halle is a conundrum that readers will love and be frustrated with. Her good, bad and ugly co-stars are equally imaginative. There’s a blossoming love story but this is by no means a romance and will in fact draw fans from multiple genres from adult fantasy as well as YA and new adult and of course Claire’s fans from her Templar series will be drawn in too. So if you’re looking for something entertaining that's a little on the wild side this is your next must read!

This was my first New Adult Urban a Fantasy and I loved it!  I was so glad too and this book was fantastic!  Loved the world building and there was a lot of info but not so much that it confused you or bored you.  This world building was perfect, the action was superb and the hilarious antics were just what I need in a book.  Needless to say this book has everything I need to feel awed and stuck to my chair so that I could sink into the world.  Halle is a forced to be reckoned with and I'm anxious for more!

There is a whole lot of good stuff going on in this book. Halle has been on her own for years - ever since she called down a storm and killed her father. She is a very hard person with quite a huge chip on her shoulder. At first I didn't really like her - but after she met Kale and realized that she wasn't some big freak of nature, she became more of a person that I really enjoyed. Her past attitude was quite understandable as more of her history becomes clear.  But her new family isn't everything they are making themselves out to be. So when Halle realizes it she is far from happy. With powers that no one seems to completely understand, she strikes off on her own only to find herself in way over her head.  I loved the lore that was built into this world. With such a deep history at its foundation it was very easy to love it. There was tons of action that got really exciting and tense - both magic and physically. This book had a taste of everything I look for in a good paranormal. I only wish I had liked Halle better the beginning. *This book was received in exchange for an honest review*

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha – Chelle: *Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review --Actual rating 4.5 Skulls What a fabulous book! Before the Storm was set in a carefully thought out world rife with potential and primed for growth and development. It contained characters that were instantly captivating, and who earned your respect (or disgust) instantly. The action and adventure throughout the book will have you on the edge of your seat, and there were surprises around every corner. Take all that and add in a love story that was both sweet and believable, and you have a definite winner. I highly recommend Before the Storm to fans of New Adult and Adult Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, and I am hoping against hope that this is just the first in a wonderful new series from Claire Ashgrove.
