Leaving the comfort and expectations of home, Amanda Smith travels to Pécs, Hungary to research her grandpapa’s past. She quickly embraces the beauty and history of the walled city, wishing for an alternate life where her grandpapa had never left in the first place. Her sense of homecoming increases when she meets Luca, a Romani dancer whose moves could melt her clothes off, and she yearns to get to know him more when she observes him caring for his dying sister. After a short summer fling, she agrees to an odd marriage proposal.
Her grandpapa’s brother visits right before the wedding, exposing the real reason his brother fled Hungary for America. Secrets open old wounds, revealing a connection with Luca’s clan. Following the revelation, the Romani family, including her fiancé, rejects Amanda because of clan loyalties. Now she questions everything she knew about her beloved grandpapa and searches for a way to repair wounds she didn’t intend to open.

About the Author
After a couple of years, I realized I would have to grow up eventually (actually, my mom realized that for me), so I went to nursing school and once again became a serious and determined student. While in school, I became fascinated with research, and after a few years of working as a floor nurse, I went into nephrology research and loved it!
Because just about everything interests me, I eventually picked up my long-dead hobby of writing, which I'm happy to say is now a budding career.
EDITOR: Growing up I was the kid who would get into trouble for reading in class. My family was the one at the restaurant with noses buried in books. It was only natural that I would seek some way to make books a part of my career path.
In March of 2014 I graduated from Portland State University with a MS in Technical Writing and Book Publishing. During my program I spent time as Acquisitions Manager and Project Manager with Ooligan Press, a student-run publishing house that is part of the graduate program. Since my graduation, I've started my own small business, taken over ownership of Portland Book Review, and worked as Project Manager at Spectacle Publishing Media Group before arriving here at Evolved Publishing.
I read anything except for traditional westerns, and have a soft spot for historical fiction and YA. I tend to gravitate towards genre fiction (particularly science fiction, fantasy, horror, action/adventure and all of the implied subgenres) and am a huge fan of comics and graphic novels. When I'm not reading or writing, I'm probably playing video games with my friends online.
While I enjoy writing my own fiction on occasion, my greatest joy is helping fellow writers achieve their dream of publishing their work. I look forward to working with Evolved Publishing and making those dreams into reality.

Behind the Open Walls By Lanette Kauten Reviewed by Jaime Kurp I was a little disappointed in this story. I felt that it was little to drawn out and took to long to tell the story. But at the same time I really, really liked the story line. I loved that Amanda got to learn about her Grandpapa even if it wasn’t what she was wanting to hear. And so liked that her family and Luca’s family were intertwined well before they even met. I did feel like the ending kind of slopped, but it was still a happy-ever-after ending. I would still recommend reading the story, it gives you a little bit of history to go along with the romance.
This book was different from what I normally read but I liked it. It gave me some insight on different cultures and some of the problems faced when loving someone from a different culture.
