Hoare is research counselor in the Research Analysts of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, London. He was Head of Chancery and Consul General in the British Embassy, Beijing, from 1988 to 1991. Pares is editor of Asian Affairs, the journal of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs. She is a former member of the Diplomatic Service at the British Embassy in Beijing, 1975-76. Annotation c.
