Eileen Rockefeller writes a stunningly good memoir about growing up with lavish wealth, but searching for some deeper meaning to life than that which material wealth can provide. Eileen writes well and her story is touching. After giving the details of her childhood, she begins to ponder deeper thoughts, ultimately aligning herself with philanthropy - giving to others in need.

Eileen Rockefeller was born into privilege. But all that fame and fortune made her descend into isolation and loneliness, but from this was born a strong adult woman who is committed to philanthropy. Being a Rockefeller Becoming Myself is a great book.

This book was moving, poignant, fascinating and worth a good thorough read until the end, revealing much hard won wisdom and offering good lessons for those from large families no matter how wealthy and/or privileged. Striving for worthwhile life work's goals and personal warmth and intimacy, despite differences, with others, Eileen Rockefeller Growald has created a road map that offers insight to others. I am very glad that I read this book. I know I will reread and ponder its application to my own life and circle of family and friends.

Reading Eileen Rockefeller's memoir was a solemn experience. I kept the radio off, the house was silent, and her literary voice was the company. It was as if she was playing a concert. Eileen's honest response to life's subtleties struck a deep chord. I felt I was with her in spirit. There are so many important lessons in her stories and poems, and I am going to try to remember them all.
