I really enjoyed this book. A close friend of mine had the book in hardcover and recommended it to me as a touching, and powerful story. When I read the synopsis of the book I was intrigued and very interested to read about the author’s life and experiences, and the book lived up to my expectations. This autobiographical book really feels like it is being told from the heart, and the writing and voice of the author reflects this. I believe many people will relate to this story, and come to appreciate the struggles that many men, and women, must have encountered throughout their lives. The writing and editing of the story is good, and I appreciate the simple cover which seems so reflective of the kind of person the author is. As others have noted, this book does feel like you are reading the life story of a friend, from someone who tells their story in a natural, unaffected and warm manner. I found this book hard to put down and read it over one weekend, always eager to come back to it, to find out what happens next in the author’s life. This book is inspiring, motivational, humble, honest, fascinating and powerful, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a heart-warming, well-written autobiography.

I was surprised at just how inspiring I found Mr. Green’s autobiography to be. This typically isn’t the genre that I choose to read, yet I was quickly pulled in and read cover to cover in one long sitting. While there isn’t much that I have in common with the author in terms of our location, lifestyle, or profession, there sure was quite a bit that spoke to me very personally. The book was about Mr. Green’s journey through and beyond a troubled childhood, failed marriage, jobs gained and lost, and personal relationships. Much of it wasn’t pleasant, yet Mr. Green kept putting one foot in front of the other and persevered to find happiness. The message that it sent to me was that when something isn’t going right or has taken a fork in the road toward the negative, change it. Stand back up, dust yourself off, and move forward.

Reviewed by Ruffina Oserio for Readers' Favorite Being Green: A Colorful Journey by Howard Green is a captivating autobiography that takes the reader on a journey through a dysfunctional family, insecurities, and sexual exploration to inner freedom. Howard’s story begins with a very tragic statement: “I never knew my mother as a sane woman. She had two nervous breakdowns before I was born, and unfortunately, she bore the scars throughout her life.” Having an insane mother wasn’t the only one troubling thing in Howard’s life; his father was both physically and verbally abusive and his brother was hardly home. How can a child in such circumstances grow up to be emotionally healthy? Read on to find out the joys and pains of his journey as he gets married, discovers his sexuality, and makes many attempts to escape his own reality. Also discover a man who comes to terms with himself and develops a successful career with 20th Century-Fox Film Corporation. Howard Green’s autobiography is a spellbinding story that is told in a unique and confident voice, a story that comes across with a rare sense of honesty. His journey towards self-acceptance hasn’t been an easy one, but it has been one that will, undoubtedly, inspire many readers like him. Although this is an autobiography, one doesn’t expect to read a string of events happening in the protagonist’s life. Instead, it is a thoughtful, introspective look at his life, a look that allows the reader to see the many hurts and bruises in his soul so they can savor the healing he experiences. Being Green: A Colorful Journey is inspiring, a well-crafted autobiography with a unique message of hope for readers, a message that says: “We can also change our stars.”

A book reflecting life… Being Green A Colorful Journey, written by Howard Green, centers on the author’s life from childhood and adulthood alike, reflecting back on key memories and moments that impacted him. But at the risk of revealing too much about this book, I will say no more about that though. Moving on to the book’s cover, the cover of this book is engaging by depicting who is presumably the author of this book predominantly in the very center. Since Being Green A Colorful Journey largely focuses on the author’s recollection of childhood memories and onwards, the cover is appropriate by reflecting the book’s content. Switching gears now away from the cover of this book and on to the editing, the author correctly adheres to grammar rules, making this book an easy read. For instance, Green correctly uses commas versus periods versus semicolons. In regards to character development, there is not traditional character development, because this book is not a work of fiction and, rather, a reflection of the author’s life. The overall tone and content of this book also reflects that Green has spent time crafting this into an interesting read. Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars for the reasons already stated above.

I've known Howard (Howey to me) for more than 50 years. This book was a window into a life I could never have imagined. He was a fun loving, dancing, social guy who seemed to be enjoying ALL of his life. The story is a testament to the process of denying his being, marrying, coming out and the tumultuous time he had finally accepting who he really was--a fun loving, dancing, social guy who finally met Doris Day. It's a journal of his colorful journey and a terrific window into every coming and going of his life. I loved it!!

Loved the book. Howard and I were friends back in the 70's when we both worked at 20th Century Fox Television. Once I started his book, I couldn't put it down. It has a wonderful flow to it and he told his story truthfully and with style. Keep up the great work, Howard. Looking forward to your next book.

Interesting reading that moves along nicely. I had a hard time putting the book down. Howard had an interesting life with many ups and downs coming from a troubled family. He has met many well known important people and movie stars in his line of work.During his down times he's like Doris Day in that he always bounces back.

I thoroughly enjoyed Green's book. He went from a painful, troubled childhood, to realizing his dreams as an adult in the entertainment industry. Through it all, Green developed a positive outlook on life. It was especially fun to read about his experiences with Doris Day and the many other famous people he got to know. I had a hard time putting the book down.
