This book of poetry is unique in many ways however, I could not help but to see traces of Maya Angelou's poetry within this author's style. Each piece of poetry has a personal blend of reality composed in it. The book deserves 5 stars because, not since reading Maya Angelou's collection of poetry, have I been so moved or inspired. It seems that the author turned her pain into poetry so that her readers could be blessed. I'm young, but I know what great poetry is, to me, and after reading Beneath the Shadow of My Wings, my heart has made a vow to invest in poetry like this more often. It spoke to my heart, fed my soul, and aided my wounded heart. To take away one star from my rating would be to take away the joy my heart felt from reading this book. The world needs this kind of realness in poetry. This generation does also.
