Actually, that ain't true. But in the first sentence of his introduction says that "This year was a good but not exceptional year for short speculative fiction", and then proves himself wrong with a little over 500 pages of great science fiction an fantasy. There is a lot of great fiction in here, but let me point out three stories that are utterly phenomenal. IT TAKES TWO, by Nicola Griffith. BY MOONLIGHT, by Peter S. Beagle. EROS, PHILIA, AGAPE, by Rachel Swirsky. If these were the ONLY three decent stories in the book, it would be totally worth the cover price, but there are a LOT of other great stories in this book. By all means, get this book. Read it. And make it an annual ritual.
