About the Author

Dr. Harry J. Saranchak, M.D., F.A.C.S. has had a distinguished career as a general surgeon, specializing in peripheral vascular, laparoscopic, arterial and venous procedures for over thirty years. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., he attained his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington (“UConn”) in 1974. There, and at New Britain General Hospital, he completed his postgraduate training. After being appointed Clinical Instructor and, later, Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UConn in the 1980’s, he served from 1990 to 1996 as Associate Chief of Surgery at New Britain General Hospital, New Britain, Connecticut and, simultaneously, at his alma mater as Associate Clinical Instructor of Surgery. He was also a staff physician at the Newington Veterans Hospital in Connecticut. For over twenty-five years, Dr. Saranchak has been a respected surgical mentor and educator for medical students, residents and colleagues alike, and has co-authored numerous medical publications. He is a recipient of multiple Golden Scalpel Awards for his teaching excellence, bestowed by UConn and New Britain General Hospital. Now retired, he continues to foster and perpetuate the gift of healing through his writings.
