Meet the Author

Nicky Charles is an independent writer/publisher who became an author quite by accident. She always saw herself as a ‘reader not a writer’ and can thank—or blame, depending on the day—her friend/editor and fellow author, Jan Gordon, for the career she now finds herself immersed in. The tale goes something like this: In January of 2009, Nicky penned a fanfiction for an old TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and soon became ‘hooked’ on story-telling. She joined a fan-based group for the show and through there met Jan Gordon. It was an idle comment made by Jan during a review of Black Silk (Jan’s newly published book) that inspired Nicky to write her first original story. Over the course of the next two months, she hastily scribbled down a suspense-driven romance entitled Forever In Time and presented it to the world in August of 2009. Soon after, she wrote The Mating, a paranormal romance and followed it up with The Keeping and The Finding. The three stories formed a loose paranormal trilogy called The Law of the Lycans. Nicky continues to expand the Lycan series and has a long list of possible plots waiting in the wings. Nicky works full-time and writes in her off-hours, few though they may be! In the next few years she hopes to retire from her day job and concentrate more of her energy on her new passion of writing. When she writes, Nicky sees the story unfolding in her head like a movie and tries to include enough detail so that readers can ‘see’ the story just as she does. The sights, sounds, smells and sensations of a scene are almost as important to her as the actual plot. Creating main characters that are ‘real’ is also something she strives for. Nicky tries to make each character different, to give them an interesting backstory, to make their actions and feelings logical and to hopefully make the reader actually care what happens to the people in the story. Nicky lives in Canada and tries to stick to Canadian spelling and punctuation in her work, in support of her country. She is an avid supporter of animal shelters, nature conservancy, food banks and a variety of other charities. Currently she has two ‘inside’ cats and one official ‘outside’ cat though a number of strays seem to take up residence in her garden each year. When not writing, Nicky enjoys reading – though she often bemoans that she seldom has time for it any more. Her favourite authors are Elizabeth Peters, S.C. Stephen and Cherise Sinclair. She also enjoys spending time out in nature, gardening, taking day trips and eating dark chocolate. You can contact Nicky Charles at her website: www.nickycharles.com

Betrayed: Days of the Rogue by Nicky Charles Sequel to Bonded  Damien Masterson lost Beth, his blood-bonded mate and unborn baby in a house explosion. It destroyed him. When he learned it was not an accident, he exploded. The ex-Enforcer is now considered a dangerous rogue, also number one on the most wanted list. And a man set on revenge is dangerous. Eve is just learning that she has Fae abilities. She is empathic and can feel what others feel. She has to get out of the city, away from feeling so many people at once. Eve finds solace in a small cabin she rents. There she enjoys nature and painting. Her landlord isn’t so bad too look at either, if he weren’t so stone faced and rude. Dr. Rafe McRae is on a sabbatical. He had problems with his last rogue patient and feels like a failure. His new renter is one to keep away from, and it’s not easy. When he realizes she is an empath like himself, he definitely has to stay away. It is rumored that it’s bad for two empaths to connect. Easier said then done when she needs him to protect her. Nicky Charles has done it again. You never quite know what twists and turns will come next in the book. She lets you in Damien’s mind just enough to keep you guessing if he’s good or bad. You can almost feel the struggle between Rafe and Eve, as magnetism keeps pulling the two together while Rafe fights to keep them apart. Just when you think everything is coming to a head, it veers off in a new direction. Great story.  **Sexual content and language

Another amazing book by Nicky!! I couldn't put this down (read it in 3 days) and was so bummed once it was finished that I will probably read it again! Definitely can't wait for the next one to come out. Thank you Nicky for doing another fabulous job at creating sensational characters that not only capture your attention but spin an enticing plot!

I love the book and greatly emjoyed the Fae element of the book. Though i do feel it would be beneficial to include a Black Canadian or African American female or she-wolf companion into your series. Expanding the racial horizons of your series will enlarge your audience and display different races in the Lycan world. You have explored Hispanics in your series but never blacks. It would be great if you could be one of the first werewolf authors to do so and again I do believe it would garner your series more attention. As a loyal reader of your Lycan series and an African American female myself I would greatly appreciate having one on the series. I believe your a great author and believe that you could accomplish this well.

AMAZING! I love the world Nicky Charles has created. The world of lycans is very interesting, but I only give her four stars because I do not like how she has combined fae into this series. The series seemed perfect just being werewolves. The fact that she added a group like the Purists in Bonded was a nice twist, but this was too much. While some might find it necessary to add more to make their plots better, Nicky shouldn't have felt the impulse. I believe that if she had just stuck to the Purist plot and perhaps made Beth a half human- half werewolf, it would have been much better. Eve could have been just human and Rafe just werewolf; it still would have the same heat and secrecy. Of course, this book did have some great qualities, too. I love the story of Damian and Beth even if it is a bit sad. It helps remind you that werewolves aren't just powerful shapeshifters with devilishly good looks. The insight on Damian's feelings are very nice. One last point of critiscism I'd like to make is that, even though it is a romance, I would have much preferred this book to only be about Damian and his struggles. I mean, sure, the romance was good on some parts, but as the book progressed, I found myself wanting to skip the romance just to get to the parts about Damian. I truly believe that the romance between Eve and Rafe means nothing. In all the previous books, all of the characters connected in some way. Kane and Ryne connected because they were brothers. Brian connected because he knew Elise, Kane's mate, and he was also the beta of Ryne's pack. Reno connects because he knew Kane and Ryne when they were at the Academy. Damian connects because he knows Kane, Ryne and Reno. Rafe may have known Reno briefly, but he shouldn't have became one of the main characters in the series. Anyways, please continue to write more stories Nicky. If you could continue on the Damian and Sam situation, please. I would also like for you to elaborate on the relationship between Daniel and the Spanish girl that you hinted at in The Finding. To all my fellow readers: If you enjoy this series then you'll enjoy the Thirst series that follows a hybrid, Ava Delaney. Currently, there are four books to this series and it is pretty good. I especially love the romance between Ava and Peter. While it is not as hated as what Nicky writes, it is still amazing. WARNING! YOU WILL GET HOOKED!

This book rocked just like all her others do! Thank you so much Nicky for publishing such wonderful stories for free! I really hope the next one is about Damian. I hope he finds love again. It would also be cool to see Kain and his pack again. I will read every book that comes out by Nicky.

I love her books but this one confused me... Its called Days of the rogue but there was barely anything about Damien THE ROGUE...the story was based on Rafe and Eve which was good I just hope her next book is ALL about Damien since he obviously isnt a bad rogue just a sad soul...thanks for all your wonderful books Nicky! Cant wait for more :)

I have loved all of the books that i have read by this author and will keep looking forward to the next thrilling tale of such deep love and devotion to ones true soul mate.

AMAZING - AWESOME - and free to boot!! I have read all 5 of Ms. Charles books and this is at the top of the list. I love how the character's from previous books are part of this one. My heart aches for Damien, having lost my soul mate too. I thought the love making was appropriate to the story. Not as much as some of the other books, but still steamy!! I can't believe Ms. Charles offers these books for free, and only requests a donation if you choose for animals. Her stories keep you guessing, she puts in many twists and the suspense is awesome. Can't wait for another by this author. Thank-you for this wonderful series, Ms. Charles. (ljb)
