Aubrey is embarking on a bucket-list trip around the world, the last wish of her Aunt Ally. It was supposed to be the trip Ally would have taken when she got better. Now, it's just a chance for Aubrey to say good-bye.
Adam escapes in his solo trips overseas, working just enough to fund the next one. When the opportunity to circle the globe falls in his lap, he can't refuse. The only catch is that he won't be traveling alone this time.
Unable to hide from each other, Adam's overprotective nature thwarts Aubrey's desire to find her own way. Can they move past initial assumptions to find something better?

Pulled at your heart strings. What amazing thing to do for a loved one. I think most can relate to the loss and final wishes. I like how Aubrey and Adams relationship builds. There both so funny and stubborn. I really like how he took over looking after her. Then falling for her slowly. Him getting the charms from each destination was super sweet. The last charm omg I thought for sure she wasnt going to go home lol I wish there was more ahhh Great Read

We have all had that loss. The one you know is coming, but you are in denial about until it happens. This is Aubreys story of her loss. How do you overcome the hole that is left in your life? How to do have fun when your best friend is not there to share the laughs with you? Aubrey finds out how from beyond the grave when Ally leaves money for her with special instructions. She gets the push she needs to find herself, how to make herself "Better". After visiting every continent (well not Antarctica) and leaving a piece of Ally behind, Aubrey not only found out how to move on, but found much more. She found her forever in Adam. This was such a beautiful journey of finding yourself after a crushing death. If you have ever lost someone you love, you will not just connect with Aubrey, you will feel every word right down to your bones. You will feel the emotion, know the pain and applaud her joy as she is able to fill the hole that was left in her heart. My life is better for reading it as I got to reflect on all of those who left my life too soon and remember our "Better" moments. Thank you Carey Heywood. Your Harry Potter is my Divergent and now I want a charm bracelet. Nicely done.

OMGosh, first 2 chapters I had tears rolling down my cheeks. Through out the book I got choked up. Aubrey's Journey is heart wrenching.  If you have ever lost some one near and dear to you and or have a heart, this book WILL make you cry.  Even the personal story at the end from Ms. Heywood grabbed my heart.  I LOVED IT.

I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review.  I gave this book 5 stars. If you have not read Carey's work then you are missing out. She is an amazingly beautiful talented soul. This is Aubrey and Adam's story. And I feel like it is Aunt Ally's too.  Aubrey and her family found out when she was 17 that her aunt Ally had cancer. She had an acceptance letter from Yale and when her family found out her aunt was sick she put all her dreams on hold and went to the local community college instead. She stayed home and helped her mom and dad take care of her aunt. Her aunt was everything to her, she could talk to her and she knew that aunt Ally would always understand and help her.  6 years later her aunt dies, it leaves her family devastated and they don't cope very well. Her aunt had a better board in her room, it was a board of all the places that she wanted to visit once she got better. That never happened. But in Ally's will she asked that Aubrey go on this trip instead. This is a tough decision for her, because her aunt asked her to go without her mom or her dad. Ally is scared, but her aunt wanted her to be able to spread her wings and fly and become the person that she was always meant to be. She decides to go and to make them feel better her dad gets a friends son to go with her, his name is Adam.  Adam is a photographer and he has traveled to all these places that Ally is going to and has agreed to be there and protect her if anything bad should happen. Adam assumes that Aubrey is a spoiled child. And he makes assumptions about her that aren't true. He is rude at first and not really that nice, but still Aubrey feels an attraction to him. Once they get on their way he starts to realize she is not the person he thought she was. Is it to late? Aubrey feels a connection to Adam, but half the time he is not nice and says things that just upset her. Once she sees that he is a nice guy can they get past all the things they assumed about each other?  This was a beautiful story. It made my heart hurt. Aubrey lost so much and I related to her pain on a very personal level. I lost my mom to cancer and it was so similar to Aubrey's situation it was scary. So I understood all the little things that she did on her trip for her Aunt. Aubrey needs this so she can heal and realize that even when you lose someone that you love so much that life does go on and you can be happy again. I don't think the trip was all what Aubrey thought it was going to be, but it was still a growing experience for her and she came out stronger and wiser then when it started.  Adam gives her just what she needs even if she doesn't know what she needs. He is just as changed by her as she is by him. And I think these two need each other to be complete  in life. Thank you Carey for such a beautiful heartfelt story. This journey that these two went on  was amazing. And I am so glad I was a part of it. I look forward to reading anything that you write and you are one of those Authors that I don't even look at the cover or the Synopsis, I just one click it. Because my life would be a little duller without your books in them. I look forward to reading what you have coming up next! I am so excited! <3

Had a hard time believing the ending especially. Hard to believe a HEA in the circumstances.

I'm lucky to have been a beta reader for Better. To watch a story grow is an amazing honor. To work with an author who is receptive and eager to hear your opinion/thoughts-even better. <<<< haha see what I did there? This story is about Aubrey- a young woman who has put her life on hold to help with her family. She is pretty freaking amazing. Never doubting her choice. She is so close to her Aunt Ally- best friends even and they had plans. Plans that now Aubrey is to embark on her own. Her parents have a different idea though and we meet Adam. He will be her guide on this once in a lifetime trip. Neither of them have any idea what is to come- but it will change both of their lives immensely. Aubrey is a bit sheltered- but she has some serious spunk. And how can you not adore a girl who speaks her mind? Yet she meets her match in Adam- gorgeous photographer who is just a bit too jaded. I absolutely LOVE them and the varied friends they meet up with on their voyage.  This story will pull all the feels- gut wrenching sadness, laughter, tears and many le sigh moments. Carey has written a astounding story of love, loss and self discovery. Kudos <3

I have been beside myself trying to think of how to begin this review. Words cannot describe the feelings I had while reading this. I was so overwhelmed with emotions throughout this book. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe it!! I Loved Carey Heywood's HIM but Better is really an appropriate name. After having the honor of reading her work, I will buy and read anything from her. There are authors who write a good book, but then their are authors who write a great book that leaves an imprint on your soul, Carey Heywood is the latter. Shortly after Better begins Aubrey has to say goodbye to her aunt/best friend. I was crying so hard I had to put the book down for a bit. The build up and the emotions were so overwhelming. You know it's going to happen but your heart can never really be prepared. Aubrey takes it pretty hard and then learns her aunt wanted her to take the trip they talked about doing when she got better. Her parents don't want her traveling the world alone so a co-worker of her father has a son who has traveled many times that is going with her.  At first Aubrey is pretty bitter that he is going and can't stand his demeanor. This trip is about letting go, living life, finding yourself, and love. Yes it's a heart wrenching story bit has a love story intertwined also. After more time together the chemistry just grows. Aubrey is torn on how she feels and feels guilty for focusing on her feelings when it's her aunts trip. She spent the last few years caring for her after giving up Yale, now she needs to decide what SHE wants. If there is one book you have to read even if you never read again it is this. Yes the story was amazing and I cannot think of one negative aspect, but the writing was so well done and everything flowed perfectly. Nothing was rushed and it all seemed so genuine and real.  *** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review ***

I agree that we should stop it in public. Nasty and perverted. However, if people want to do it in private, that's theur business.
