I love a good second chance, and this book did not disappoint me. Dan the pizza man has a second chance with Roslyn, the one woman who could ever hold his heart. Can he convince her to settle down to the quiet life on Whidbey island?

What a lovely, heartwarming story! Since it’s told entirely from Dan’s point of view, we get a very good sense of where he’s been, where he is now in his life, and what he wants for his future. He doesn’t regret anything about the changes he made in his life that led him to his island life , except for losing Roslyn. But in his heart of hearts he knows that at the time he made the decision to break things off, she wasn’t ready to make the same changes that he wanted to make and he didn’t want to push her into something she wasn’t ready for. It’s different now though, five years later. His experiences on the island have shown him that you can have a productive working life and still find time for yourself and your friends. This is what he sincerely hopes he can show Roslyn once she has entered back into his life. He’s not foolish enough to believe that he can change her, but wants her to come to the realization for herself that there is more to life than a career. Roslyn is cautious at first with Dan, an understandable reaction since he broke her heart already once. But Dan’s sincerity, his openness in revealing his feelings, and his gentle courtship are hard to resist and it’s not long before they end up in bed together. But while the love scenes are pretty steamy, they are balanced out with the time the couple spends talking, going on fun dates, and just being together without any expectations. It’s a lovely, believable romance. This story has the hallmarks of a ‘small town’ romance (on an island) with an eclectic cast of secondary characters whom Dan is happy to be friends with, while at the same time showing the bustle of the city of Seattle where Roslyn lives and works. I liked the contrast of these scenes and their lifestyles, even as it becomes clear that Dan hasn’t left all of the city behind (he still loves his Porsche and fine dining and the concert scene) and Roslyn finds herself spending more and more time at Dan’s peaceful home. The compromise needed to build a life together is in the works and it’s only a matter of time before they get to their happy ending. This is a lighthearted romance, with lots of laughs and a sexy romance between two people who are finally ready to make the leap together.

The Wingmen series by author Daisy Prescott has become a favorite of mine, and each book reminds me of why I love them so much. Daisy has created a group of characters that make friendship, love, and life on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest feel like home, and I only wish that I could spend time there with them. I have been looking forward to Daniel Ashland's story for quite a while, and BETTER LOVE makes the wait very worthwhile. Dan is the polar opposite of the other men in this series, the voice of reason and maturity to their rowdy twenty-something antics. The residents of Whidbey Island only know Dan as the owner of Sal's, pizza place extraordinaire, but Dan has led and walked away from a much different life to get to the place that he's in. Roslyn Porter, publicist and sometime babysitter to the rich and famous knows all too well what Dan left behind. Mixing business with pleasure is rarely a good idea, and, when Dan decided to drop out of the rat race in favor of a simpler life, he dropped Roslyn, too. But Roslyn's good at what she does, and when Dan calls her in to do damage control for one of the island boys, it becomes very clear very quickly that the fire between her and Dan is still burning. Second-chance love stories are some of my favorite, and when they're done with humor and friendship, even better. Daisy absolutely has mastered the art of the 'I didn't see the love that was right in front of me' read, and always manages to infuse them with dialogue that makes me alternately melt and laugh out loud, sassy heroines that know who they are and what they want, and the sexy, confident men that love them. Just as I expected, BETTER LOVE has all of these things, and left me feeling like I'd just spent some time with a great group of friends. An easy 5 stars for me, and a definite recommendation for your TBR. Now, if we can just get Carter to settle down... ;-)

Daisy Prescott has written her best yet. Better Love is utterly romantic, wildly witty and features one of the best second-chance love stories I’ve ever read. To be able to watch as Dan Ashland rekindle what he threw away all those years ago with Roslyn Porter was nothing less than glorious. From that first phone call that clearly flustered each of them to the unexpected first encounter after so much time had passed, the pizza man and the publicist knew their hearts never stood a chance. Their flirty yet guarded banter often hid the hurt and pain they both endured when they parted ways. But underneath it all, their love simply could not be denied. It burns brightly on every single page. I can’t even describe how hard I fell for this book. Written in the male POV, the author beautifully combines smart humor with a tender love that made me swoon. Dan and Ros manage to face their fears head on and although they realize they don’t want to waste another minute not being in each other’s arms, time will tell whether or not they can finally make it work. They are playful and sweet, hungry and passionate. This silver fox could no doubt tame his dragon slayer time and time again and trust me, their sexy as hell trysts were off the charts hot, proving that there is no age limit in satisfying the one true love of your life. As with the other books in this series, many familiar faces make cameo appearances and the Whidbey regulars add just the right touch. There is a certain magic that continues to entice the reader to want to visit this quirky Island with each new book. The characters are well-written and relatable and you never want to let them go. I have no doubt that you will adore this book just like I do. You’ll laugh, sigh and after that last line is read, you’ll be grinning like a fool in love. 5 huge stars!!

BETTER LOVE written by the always impressive Daisy Prescott, is a book that is refreshing, rewarding and oh so romantic! Daniel Ashland is a deep man, who truly enjoys a pure, simple life surrounded by the beautiful nature of Whidbey Island, Sal's, one of the island's small pizza shops that he proudly owns, many friends and the relief he claimed when he left the corporate world behind. Dan also left behind Roslyn Porter, a big wig in Seattle and a PR genius. Dan and Ros had big potential as a power couple, but Roslyn was not willing to give up her dreams of success in the big city, not even for Dan. When Dan moved back to Whidbey and Roslyn stayed in Seattle, two misunderstood hearts were left to fend for themselves, as life marched on. Years later, Roslyn was brought back into Dan's life to help Erik Kelso, a Wingman we got to know in Prescott's book ANYTHING BUT LOVE, smooth out some negative publicity that was affecting him surrounding a stunt he pulled. Thrown back together in hilarious circumstances, Dan and Ros are reminded(at moments stubbornly) that the connection that began in a corporate setting was much stronger, sweeter and sexier than they remembered. The chemistry between the two was almost combustible, as Dan vowed to court Ros and win back her heart. As the story progresses, Dan and Ros act like teenagers all over again, making out in cars, playing jokes on each other, getting to know each other all over again, first on a lighter level, and then much more deeply. Dan's soulful spirit reaches Roslyn's heart much more powerfully than she anticipated it would, catching her off guard, but eventually softening her to his charms. Slow Dancing to a specifically requested song at a wedding might do that to a girl! BETTER LOVE has it all. A second chance at happily ever after. A 40-something man realizing what he has, and also what he's missing and going for it in the most profound way. A 30-something woman scared of change, but even more afraid of never losing herself to true love. This story features familiar friends who live on Whidbey Island or come back to visit, friends who make a difference in your life, and in turn, appreciate your friendship. This story also features many of the wonderful Whidbey places Daisy Prescott has written about often in her books, and are characters on their own merit, (I need to get to The Dog House Tavern one day,) and love. So Much Love. BETTER LOVE is wise, humorous, thoughtful, fun, smart, frought with meaning and now, one of my favorite books of all time. Congratulations, Daisy Prescott! BETTER LOVE is BEAUTIFUL.
