Hot wolves and hitchhiking ghosts in a light, fun read! “Do you believe in ghosts?” Between a Wolf and a Hard Place by Terry Spear is the twenty-first installment in her Heart of the Wolf series in which two wolves in the close-knit wolf-town of Silver Town find romance. Told from multiple third person perspectives, it’s a quick, amusing and light-hearted story with a simple, uncomplicated plot – in other words, a perfect escape read. It is the story of alpha Brett Silver and Ellie MacTire. The shenanigans all start with Brett’s donation of his great-aunt’s piano to the Silver Town Hotel. What Brett didn’t know was that accompanying the piano was a hitchhiking ghost identified as his great-aunt Matilda. At the hotel, Matilda quickly made her presence known as she is determined to pass on a missive to Ellie. Ellie happens to own the Silver Town Hotel with her two sisters. Meanwhile, Brett is determined to win Ellie’s heart. The couple has been dating for a while, but Brett badly wants to take the next step. With his great-aunt generating raucous mischief at the hotel creating issues keeping the guests oblivious to the ghostly goings-on, is it possible that Brett will finally be convinced that ghosts do exist? The answer has huge consequences for the couple as Ellie refuses to mate with a wolf that doesn’t believe in ghosts. Of course, she won’t tell Brett that as Brett and Ellie work together to solve an old mystery. Even though this book is part of a series, the story works very well as a standalone read, There are interconnected characters with the previous books and fans of the series will certainly enjoy catching up with previous favorite characters. Rest assured, though, that there is absolutely no need to be aware of the previous books to fully enjoy this tale. It is a glowing testament to Terry’s storytelling skills that this far into the series, her stories are still fresh, original and fun-to-read. This one, in particular, had plenty of silly humor with some truly hilarious scenes that had me laughing out loud. If you enjoy entertaining paranormal romances with swoon worthy alpha heroes in the form of hot wolves, ghosts, and an ending guaranteed to make you smile, I would highly encourage you to check out Between a Wolf and a Hard Place! Everyone likes a quick fast fun read.... well this is that book. This lighthearted read is perfect for those times that you really don't want to think about complicated plots. It has a beautiful love story and a large cast of characters to keep every reader involved in the plot. There are some funny scenes to this book that made me chuckle and just thinking about what was going on still makes me smile. Ellie's secret takes on quite an amusing turn and it adds some spice to this story along with Brett's idiotic statement to Ellie. But I can't tell you what that is I don't want to spoil the book for you. At certain points in the book I wanted a little more zing to the plot but this didn't take away from the enjoyment of the read. For this reason, I give it a 3.5 STARS. Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

A colorful cast of characters bring Silver Town to life and I like the world that Terry Spear has created. Although Brett and Ellie were great characters and ultimately were a great couple, I did have a hard time with the way their story played out. There are quite a few things going on in this story that circle around Brett and Ellie. There are ghosts, there are some shared sexy dreams, there are a trio of cousins who are ghost busters, and there are two families of wolves who are very protective of one another and a town who rallies around their own. I think my main issue with this book was the way Ellie went about “testing” if she and Brett were supposed to be together. She was very cavalier about dating other wolves and not trusting that those shared sexy dreams meant that they were meant for each other. I get that mating means mated for life, but knowing that the sexy dream thing runs in Brett’s family (his cousins found their mates that way) it just rubbed me the wrong way that she would do that to him. And the fact that Brett is an alpha werewolf and he didn’t get a bit more adamant about her not dating other wolves…well it just didn’t make sense to me. The other thing that kind of got in the way was the appearance of Ellie’s cousins, the ghost hunters. They seemed to be more of a diversion me than adding to Ellie and Brett’s story. Between the ghost in the hotel and Brett’s grandmother, there was enough ghost stuff going on that I felt the cousins took just a bit away from Ellie and Brett. What I did like was the world that Terry Spear has created and the community of the Silver Town. There were a lot of great characters that were worked into the story and I just loved that small town feel they gave this book. And I loved the scenes of Ellie’s dates where the pack just so happen to be having lunch at the same time and same place as her dates! And other than putting up with Ellie’s dating nonsense, I did love Brett – he was everything you’d want in a werewolf mate! Although I didn’t love this book, there’s enough about the world that I do think I’ll be checking out others in this series. The writing and dialogue were great and even though there wasn’t a lot of heat, there was enough tension and romance to make up for it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy from the publisher via NetGalley of this book.

'Between a Wolf and a Hard Place' by Terry Spear is book 21 in the "Heart of the Wolf" series. This is the story of Brett and Ellie. I have been jumping in and out of this series so for me this was a standalone book. I will say that it appears that Brett and Ellie met in another book but they have moved forward in their relationship other than a few dates before this book. Ellie and her sisters have opened a hotel in Silver Town. This hotel Ellie has found that they are ghost in the hotel. Ellie is able to talk to and see ghost which has caused her to loose relationships in the past. So she is worried that Brett won't be able to take her ability to see ghost. Brett knows that Ellie is hiding something and would like to know what that is. Brett is highly attracted to Ellie and hopes that she might be his mate. Loved watching these two come together and learn to trust/Love. "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."

Terry Spear has done it again with a book that is hard to put down. She combines everyday life with the paranormal to make a interesting story that does not lag in any area. She has combined the love life well and has you rooting for the ghost and the solving of a death that was other than what it was.

BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is the twenty first installment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal, romance series focusing on the shifter wolves of Silver Town. This is Alpha werewolf Brett Silver, and Silver Town hotel co-owner Ellie MacTire’s story line. BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Told from several third person perspectives including Brett and Ellie BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is a ghost-story mystery. When the MacTire sister’s bought and renovated the old Silver Town hotel they didn’t expect unwanted guests including a couple of ghosts who took up residence in the old hotel. Enter Chrissy, a former maid and current spirit that haunts the Silver Town hotel, and Brett’s late, great aunt Matilda who couldn’t leave behind the family piano hitching a ride to the hotel when the Silver brother’s donated the musical instrument to the MacTire’s renovation project. What ensues is the building relationship between Ellie and Brett, and the search for the truth as to why neither spirit can move on from the past. The MacTire sisters see and hear ghosts, and renovating the old Silver Town hotel has kept the sisters busy as it pertains to the history and the ghosts haunting the hotel. While Ellie’s relationship with Brett continues to grow our heroine is perplexed when the usual ‘dream walking’ mate doesn’t enter into her fantasies or dreams and is determined to date as many wolves in order to find her Mr. Right. The $ex scenes are limited, mostly implied, or fade to black. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the MacTire sisters Laurel and Meghan, Brett’s brothers CJ, Eric and Sarandon, as well as most of the Silver Town wolves. Ellie’s ghost hunting uncles, Stanton, Yolan and Vernon, return to cause a little mischief and mayhem. BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is a sweet and simple paranormal romance about two wolves looking into the death’s of two permanent guests at the Silver Town hotel. The premise is spirited; the characters are playful; the romance is a slow build to a happily ever after.
