About the Author

MJ is a lunch lady in the heart of Central Illinois. My gosh, can you get more folksy than that? She met her husband at the University of Missouri-Columbia and now she has an eighteen-year-old (how did that happen?) and sixteen year old triplets! She loves to read, karaoke (where she can pretend she is a rock star) and spends WAY too much time on Facebook. She grew up in St. Louis and still has family there.

So, the concept of this book was intriguing to me. A female rock star, Jasmine, finds her best friend dead in her bed. The cop sent to investigate, Heath, finds himself instantly attracted to Jasmine, but he doesn’t want to be. As the story develops, they are thrust together under dangerous circumstances. Jazz’s life may be in danger and Heath feels compelled to protect her. Will they each go out of their comfort zones and let the other in? The other books in this series have been just so-so for me. I liked this book. I liked the characters and the plot, but I was plagued by an air of unbelievability when it came to the chemistry and the insta-attraction between the main characters. The story ended up just feeling a bit hurried for me in that respect. But, as far as the thriller/action part of the book, I felt that was paced well and made this book a real page turner for me. I really liked that the woman was the rock star in this scenario. I thought that was a great twist on a pretty overdone general plot. Heath is also incredibly hot, awesome and really just an intense but great guy. He doesn’t want to want Jazz, but he does. I’m not sure he puts up much of a fight, just as Jazz doesn’t, and that’s what felt a bit outlandish for me. The conflict in this book seemed all external, not internal. And given their respective pasts I would have thought there’d be just a bit more internal turmoil…it seemed like they got over their issues pretty quick and that bothered me. Overall, this is a great action packed story. It’s done pretty well and I have to say I enjoyed it much more than the previous book I read in this series. 4 stars. Hot Cop! Great Mystery Review by: Reds Hot Reads Between Rock and a Hard Place MJ Schiller 5 BIG Stars!! Would give more if possible! This is my favorite book by MJ so far! I read it in one evening because I could. Not. Put. It. Down. Oh Heath McGowan is a hot cop. Who doesn’t love a man in uniform? Heath McGowan hot shot lead homicide detective on a case that involves Jasmine “Jazz” Barrett Rock Star. What he does not bargain for is being star struck and humbled by Jasmine. I absolutely loved the reverse role in this story. We have a “normal” guy and a female Rock Star. You don’t read too many books like this so for me it was a nice change of pace. The story is very focused on the mystery aspect, which was very well written. Of course the love story is outstanding too but with a homicide detective there is a mystery afoot.  Heath and Jasmine are drawn to each other almost instantly. Heath has “woman” issues and Jasmine has “man” issues but after some crazy angsty moments (that I wanted to slap someone) they put these issues behind them. The secondary characters really add a special touch to the story. I loved Heath’s brothers Luke and Kole. Jack (Heath’s son) is such a cutie.  We are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions in this one. The sex scenes in the book were very tastefully done. The sexual tension between the two characters is crazy good. At one point I shouted “will you just get it on already!” Good writing skills were hard at work here.  I am a big MJ Schiller fan and recommend this book as well as her others. If you like a great love story this book will not disappoint you. Quotes: He brought his lips down on hers, stealing away breath and heart.

Rock and Roll Mystery. Way to go, Schiller. The murder investigation details were excellent and the plot-twist double take? Never saw it coming. Loved it!
