About the Author
Matt M. Matthews joined the US Army Combat Studies Institute in July 2005 after working for 16 years as a member of the Battle Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth. Mr. Matthews graduated from Kansas State University in 1986 with a BS in History. After serving on active duty in the Army as an enlisted man from 1977 to 1981, he served as an officer in the Army Reserve and Kansas Army National Guard from 1983 to 1991. Mr. Matthews has co-authored numerous scholarly articles on the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi and has written several CSI publications, including The Posse Comitatus Act and the United States Army: A Historical Perspective; Operation AL FAJR: A Study in Army and Marine Joint Operations; The US Army on the Mexican Border: A Historical Perspective; We Were Caught Unprepared: The 2006 Hezbollah War; and An Ever Present Danger: A Concise History of British Military Operations on the North-West Frontier, 1849-1947. His has also contributed studies for Vanguard of Valor: Small Unit Actions in Afghanistan, Volumes I and II.
