Overview

By the time he was fourteen, Clayton Curtis realized his whole life would be boring.

Living in a middle-of-nowhere piece of the country would have been boring enough, but it was also the land that time forgot. Due to inherit the family home passed down through many generations, Clayton felt doomed to a life in the stone age. Then everything changed when a new subdivision was built a mile from his house.

With scrap wood, he and his friends built a large tree house complex. From high in the tree, they saw a glowing faraway field one night and were determined to find out what it was. What they discovered there was beyond epically wonderful, and the boys knew it must be kept a secret. They quickly became obsessed with going to see it often, even though being there was changing them and herding them toward a decision they didn't want to make.

They would soon either have to be willing to do whatever was necessary to keep the secret or never go there again.

About the Author

R.E. (Bob) Munzing spent his childhood in Michigan, roaming the woods and building tree houses. His teen years were spent reading hundreds of science fiction books, frequently in those same tree houses. After a successful thirty-five-year engineeriong career that included designing machines to build cars, trucks, tanks, jet turbines, robots, and an atom-smashing particle accelerator, Bob finally returned to his first love---books. He actively began writing and drew his inspiration from the books he read as a kid. Thus, The Last Elfarian was born, His epic story has now turned into a series and will eventually span four books, the first of which is "Beyond the Firefly Field."

Description (An enchanting and adventurous fantasy novel for 9- to 14- year-olds.) By the time he was fourteen, Clayton Curtis realized his whole life would be boring. Living in a middle-of-nowhere piece of the country would have been boring enough, but it was also the land that time forgot. Due to inherit the family home passed down through many generations, Clayton felt doomed to a life in the stone age. Everything changed when a new subdivision was built a mile from his house. With scrap wood, he and his friends built a large tree house complex. From high in the tree, they saw a glowing faraway field one night and were determined to find out what it was. What they discovered there was beyond epically wonderful, and the boys knew it must be kept secret. They quickly became obsessed with going to see it often, even though being there was changing them and herding them toward a decision they didn’t want to make. They would soon either have to be willing to do whatever was necessary to keep the secret or never go there again. My Review of "Beyond the Firefly Field" This is a book written for all ages. Aimed for 9-14 year old, R. E. Munzing has managed to bridge the gap and give us a novel that fires the imaginations of readers to talk and share the story with others. I had a fun time reading "Beyond the Firefly Field" (I am in my 50's)and share it with a few of my great nieces and nephews. Coming together to talk about the eclectic characters and the adventure they share. Once you absorb the different characters and let your imagination take you to the tree house you too will see the lights in the far off field and travel with the group as they discover the source of those lights. I recommend this book to anyone not afraid to admit the young boy or girl in them has never completely grown up and still likes to visit far off lands or sail on the deck with Captain Hook, or travel on the Mississippi with Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. There are few books that appeal to the young and the young at heart alike so don't miss our chance at this one. My rating of "Beyond the Firefly Field" is 4.25 out of 5 stars.

Fabulous read for 8-14, very boy-friendly read, too. Building with wood and Adventures, very boy-friendly. Which is why the title is about Firefly Field and not Faeries. Shhh. The text about the Firefly culture was a little slow in one area where it was a lot of information and my brain went "yadda, yadda, back to something ELSE please" And right after that, the author DID do something else, and a little further into the book, I saw why the extra load of information was necessary to the plot. So, I stand corrected. The time between books cleverly mirrors the kids' wait for seasonal change! I would definitely recommend this to (parents of) kids of the right age. I would probably read the entire series if I could. I just might! Because age is just a number!
