For fashion designer Julian Cornell, appearances mean everything. His love affairs are strictly casual, and the only thing he cares about is making his clothing line a success. A chance encounter with the man he loved long ago has Julian thinking for the first time in years there may be more to life than being seen at the best parties and what designer labels to wear.
When Julian's world takes an unexpected turn, it's Nick who helps him regain perspective on what matters most in life. Julian, in turn, helps Nick accept who he is and understand he isn't responsible for tragedies he couldn't prevent. Lost love found can be even sweeter the second time around and after all the years apart, both men learn to look beyond the surface to find the men they are inside.

Great Start to a New Series! Any time I pick up a Felice Stevens' novel, I know that I am going to get a well written, heart warming story about love, family and friends, and Beyond the Surface did not disappoint me!! Beyond the Surface is a heart-felt, emotional read about getting a second chance to right the wrongs of your past, to overcoming obstacles...real and invisible ones, and to finally being connected to the one that you have always loved. I laughed. I cried. And I just overall loved this story that was told by an extremely gifted storyteller. Beyond the Surface is the story of Nick Fletcher and Julian Cornell. Nick Fletcher is a firefighter, who is struggling to find himself and battle demons that have haunted him for while. Julian Cornell is a men's fashion designer on the rise, but who also feels a little lost and unsettled. When these two walk into each other's lives get ready for an extremely enjoyable ride. However, this is not where Nick and Julian's story began....Nick and Julian met in high school when they were young, innocent and discovering who they were, well...Nick, more so than Julian. Nick's choices and decisions one fateful night during their high school years sets the stage for this wonderful book, and the introduction of a wonderful cast of characters, including Julian's best friends, Marcus and Zach (the Breakfast Club), and Nick's sister, Katie. I absolutely adored all of the characters. Each character offered something wonderful and essential to the story, such as Marcus and his comedy, or Zach and his calm to Marcus' storm, or Katie and her love and support of her brother Nick. Bravo, Felice Stevens on another great job!! Beyond the Surface is well written, with a steady pace, contains a great cast of characters, and overall, just makes you feel good about having read it. I cannot wait for the rest of the stories of the members of the Breakfast Club, most especially Marcus' story!! ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.
