What a fantastic idea to keep younger children occupied during church but to do something with a message. This book shares many stories from the bible and each page has a "Did You Know" at the top of each page with a fact that you may or may not have known about the bible. I'm only a semi crafty person, but my stepson has done Origami before so I asked him for his assistance in trying some of these pieces. I could handle most of the level 1 and level 2 took some time. He was able to do various level 3 pieces with ease. The drawings are explicit and show you step by step how to recreate the different pieces.
What a fun way to make scripture stories come to life! I love using my hands and creating with paper, so I knew this was an activity I would enjoy. I tried three designs to start, one from each skill level. I found the directions and diagrams in the book to be clear and easy to understand. Each page also has interesting "Did you know?" facts relating to the object of the scripture story being created. The index has the projects organized by skill level since the contents of the book are in order of the Old and New Testament. I would recommend using origami paper since I find it easier to fold than regular printer paper, and they come in a perfect square. There are twenty four designs in the book and most of them I find interesting, although some seem a little vague, like manna and the bread loaf. I'm looking forward to using this as an activity in the senior primary class I teach! (I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher; all opinions in this review are my own)
Bible Origami is a well developed beginning teaching book with a family friendly theme and uplifting subject. It guides you through the process step by step with clear pictures and written directions. Initially I thought my younger kids would enjoy doing this project with me as a quiet time activity. However, it is geared to an older child/adult. Possibly I would suggest it for a middle school aged kid at the youngest. I appreciated the origami techniques the book taught in the beginning it allowed you as a reader to get a good foundation of the basics. Definitely practice those before jumping in. There are also little tidbits and facts sprinkled throughout the book that I found entertaining and interesting. Be ready to take some time and be patient to figure this one out, but it comes as you practice. I found this art to be meditative and enjoyable after I overcame my initial frustrations. It was a puzzle well worth figuring out for the peaceful activity I found to enjoy My main critique is that I wish there was more full color pictures of the finished products rather than just drawn. And at times the directions are a bit vague, yet I was able to follow after some study. I received this book for free. All opinions and information are my own. AND I really did enjoy this one and suggest it! @countrychic_candice Fearlessly Creative Mammas
