Overview

A simple, interactive portrait of a young mouse boy and his daddy forging a now-and-forever bond through sports and activities. Someday Charlie will be big and brave—just like his daddy! From climbing up the slide to climbing a mountain, a boy looks to his dad for what he can do now, and what they'll someday do together. Celebrates the role physical activity plays in parent-child relationships and how it can lead to lifelong connections. Gatefolds reveal the daddy-equivalent of the boy's activities, and how they'll share activity-based adventures when the boy becomes bigger (and braver!).

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Emily Griffin
Charlie loves his big, brave daddy. While Charlie does things like swim in the bath tub, climb to the top of the slide, and ride a tricycle, his daddy swims in deep water, climbs to the top of a mountain, and races his bicycle up and down hills. When Charlie grows up he will do all those big and brave things with his daddy; "They will ski together, they will ride together, and they will walk the world together." From Croatia, Smiljana Coh uses digital illustrations, in warm pastels, which are young, playful, and slightly quirky. A large board book perfect for Father's Day; dad's and their preschoolers will enjoy reading about the differences between what Charlie and his dad can do. The activities that Charlie and Daddy do together can offer conversation starters and prompts for further discussion. Reviewer: Emily Griffin

.Pre-K—A simple text is paired with Coh's round-faced, mouse-eared figures to emphasize how little ones idolize their dads. "Meet Charlie. Charlie loves his daddy. Daddy is big and brave." While Charlie swims in the bathtub, sleds down the hill, climbs to the top of the slide, rides his tricycle, or walks down the sidewalk to the corner, he knows that when he grows up he will join his father in finding true adventure. Foldout pages allow young readers to first see Charlie, open the page, and then watch what his Daddy does. He moves with ease swimming through deep water, climbs up and sleds down high mountains, races his bike up hills, and hikes across town. Coh's soothing, brightly colored circles, blocks, and lines form a series of identifiable images of a child's treasured places of fun-the bathtub, playground, street, family home, and snow-covered trees. Oversize font gives children the opportunity to identify letters and words as Charlie and his Daddy plan to "walk the world together."Mary Elam, Learning Media Services, Plano ISD, TX
