Great book! beautiful photos and interesting and fun projects. I had not done much hand sewing prior to this book but have done many of the projects and consider myself decent now. My children LOVE the felt food and are now making requests to me rather than Santa this holiday season because as my 3year old stated "no mom you can make it" in reply to adding a felt pizza on his Christmas list:)
This book is such fun! With this book you can, indeed, create your own felt universe populated with all manner of funny felted treasures! As with all books from Lark the projects are extremely well illustrated and the written instructions are very clear. The book is broken down into sections. Cake, Camping, Plants, Holidays, Veggies, Office, Tools ... and more. All available to make your virtual felted world seem like the real thing. This book is unique, fanciful , creative and just plain fun. The details are quite spectacular and I can't imagine anyone not having fun just looking at this book - making the projects is the icing on the cake - and there's a recipe for icing in the book! This book will, of course, appeal to felters but I think that it will also appeal to a wide range of crafters, and sewers. If I was a Mom I would have a great time making these little treasure for my children... providing them with their very own camp fire without the burn or scissors with the potential for cuts! This book is well done and thoroughly enjoyable !
This is a book I wish I had when my children were younger. It is full of easy to make, hand-sewn felt projects that include all kinds of food for kitchen play (including the fixings for a banana split and a cheeseburger), a set of workbench tools, office items like a laptop and calculator, a doctor kit, and a purse complete with wallet, cell phone, and lipstick! There is also a set of projects for play gardening and camping, including campfire logs with "fire". There are so many fun things to make to spark any child's imagination for playtime. The book has lots of photos, clear instructions, and full size patterns to copy. The projects use standard felt and fiberfill that can be found at any craft store and some of them call for additional materials such as cardboard or plastic to add for firmness. There is also a section of Christmas ornaments and a felt gingerbread house. I'll definitely be using this book to create toys for future grandkids! No age range is suggested for these toys, but some of the items are small, and others have small pieces of felt sewn on that, should they come loose, could pose a choking hazard for very young children who still put everything in their mouths, so discretion is advised. Otherwise, I love the potential for creative playtime that these projects provide. I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.
