This is one of the best Baseball photograph books ever. It has many photographs of interesting players that do not usually appear in the other books. They are all black and white, crisp clear and most are posed. The commentary on each photograph is interesting and expands one's knowledge of baseball from 1900 to 1940. If you like Baseball or Photography ( I like both) this book will interest you.

Conlon was not a great photographer, but he was THERE at Hilltop Park and the Polo Grounds and other lost diamonds when few others were, and his subject matter is of great interest to me. He may have taken more than 40,000 images, of which over 8,000 survive as negatives. The authors supply a mix taken throughout Conlon's career, which spanned from 1904 to 1943, and provide stories about the players depicted. The earlier images are more interesting, but later images outnumber them. Moreover, there are no threads to tie the various images together. It is more like a pack of baseball cards between covers, which may be fine for some.
