For my biography report, I chose to read Bill Cosby: Actor and Comedian by Michael Schuman. In this book Michael Schuman examines Cosby¿s life. Schuman examines Cosby¿s life from his childhood to his career as a comedian and a student to his stardom in Hollywood. The book had short factual sentences and equally short paragraphs and Schuman relates important facts clearly. The double-spaced page layout is reader friendly. On July 12, 1937 Bill Cosby was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1956 Bill dropped out of high school and enlists in the Navy. Bill enrolls at Temple University in Philadelphia in 1960. In 1962, Bill dropped out of temple and got a job at the Gaslight in Greenwich Valley, New York City. On January 25, 1964 Bill married Camille Hanks and their first child Erika was born in 1965 while Bill is on location in Hong Kong for I Spy. In 1969, Bill starred in the New Bill Cosby Show. In 1976, Bill earned his doctorate from the University of Massachusetts. In 1984, Bill stars in The Cosby Show. In 1986, two of Bill¿s books Fatherhood and Time Flies are published. In 1988, Bill donates $20 million to Spelman College, which was the largest donation by one person to a black college. Then in 1992, Bill tried to buy NBC, but did not have the funds to do it himself and he is inducted into the Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame. Schuman discusses both the triumphs and failures that Cosby faced on the way to becoming one of the most successful actors, comedians and authors in modern times. Cosby originally started out as a comedian and then was discovered as a actor on television. He also tried movies, but was not as successful. He found out his exceptional skill as a author in the 1970¿s. Besides being a talented actor, comedian and author, Cosby also had a Ph.D. in education. Cosby¿s determination and charisma have brought him great success and many fans entertainment. Schuman discusses Bill¿s childhood, which was financially deprived because his father used all the family¿s money on alcohol and drugs. Bill¿s father was out of the picture during most of his childhood causing bill to take a lot of responsibility at a very young age. His whole family had to pitch for them to survive. He also talks about the games that Bill played as a child with his friends in the neighborhood. We learn about Bill¿s high school career also. Bill went to a gifted school and then went back to his old school and then eventually dropped out of high school to join the military. Schuman tells us about how Bill got a scholarship for track to the University of Temple and ended up playing football for Temple. He was also discovered as a comedian in college and dropped out of college to go perform at New York¿s nightclub Greenwich Valley. Nearly ten years later Cosby returns to college at the University of Massachusetts and gets his doctorate and officially becomes Dr. William Cosby, Jr. Cosby had a many shows and movies that he starred or co-starred in. Most of Cosby¿s shows personified people in his life. Many of his shows and movies won awards such as Grammy¿s or Emmy¿s. He also won many awards for his comedy. He was obviously a talented actor and comedian. I loved all of his work. His shows such as Fat Albert and the Cosby Show are some of my favorite television shows. The Cosby Show was the most watched television show in America for five straight seasons. His work was as an actor, comedian and author was another reason why I chose him to do my biography on. This book was a pretty easy read for a normal freshman in high school. It has 112 pages in it and took me approximately two hours to read I am a slow reader so maybe a little shorter for faster readers. The book actually kept me interested for most of the time(which is usually pretty difficult). I really enjoyed this book because I got to read about someone who I actually find interesting. Bill Cosby is one of my heroes for all that he overcame in his childhood and l
