Anna McCallister, her lover James Thompson, and her billionaire boss and former lover Henry Reid are still snowed in in Phoenicia, with Anna and James struggling to deal with the news of Henry's fatal cancer diagnosis. As they help him settle his affairs, a mystery arises in town: five snowcats have been stolen from the same Parks Department yard that James "borrowed" his from to save Anna and Henry from the snowed-in farmhouse. With only Henry and James currently connected to any break-ins at the yard, they are on the hook for the other theft-unless they can direct the authorities to the actual people responsible.
When Anna comes up the idea of using an in-town friend's scanner to listen in on the radios used by the snowcat drivers, they learn something terrible: the large group of heavily armed thieves are driving around robbing banks and other businesses in the small towns they pass through, and they will be in Phoenicia in an hour. She, James and Henry must think fast to help the one local cop gather and protect the townsfolk while they wait to see if the robbers will leave them alone.
But the robbers are locals, and small towns have a lot of gossip. And everyone around knows that the billionaire Henry Reid is in town. When the robbers demand to take him with them as a hostage in order to raid his accounts, Henry's quick thinking and courage help protect the new lovers who have become his best friends. But his success may come at a very high price.
