Overview

Flagstaff, Arizona, may seem like a small town at the foot of the San Francisco Peaks, but it has a rich and exciting history. Explorers, pioneers, settlers, scientists, fire lookouts, and businessmen have passed through, leaving their names to be found on landmarks, buildings, and mountains. Readers will find information about western water rights, how one man, Gus Pearson, helped to bring back the Ponderosa forest around Flagstaff after it had been clear cut, and how forest fires have shaped the history of the West. This is an extensively researched account of Flagstaff from 5,860,000 BCE to 1986. People who want more from their books of history than just names and dates will find the people who founded and built Flagstaff live again. This is the history of the West touched at one illuminating point.
