Mondimore makes a very articulate and intelligent presentation on bipolar disorder. He makes the material accessible, addresses practical aspects of coping with major mental illness and explains the newest scientific insights in bite-sized, yet not grossly oversimplified, pieces.

This is the book I turn to for any facts about my bipolar disorder. Its informational aspect is perfectly balanced by a good narrative approach that is not dry and that gives me real understanding about what is happening to me. Also helpful to spouse and other family members. We are scientists and appreciate the not-too-dumbed-down aspect of this book.

This is an extremely good resource for the patient and her or his family as well as the mental health professional. Easy to read, yet still very in-depth. The book covers every aspect (and more) of the disorder that I was hoping for.

Superb and nesessary reading for those affected and families, especially given how far back are most psychiatrists  in terms of understanding and experience.

My psychiatrist recommended this book when I was diagonosed as Bipolar. I found the description of the different diagnosis and treatments of Bipolar very helpful. The list of symptoms for each diagnosis helped me put everything into perspective. The information about medications, their history, theraputic benefits and side effects helped me feel I could make informed choices about my treatment.

At my doctors suggestion, I purchased this book the day I was diagnosed. I sat down with a highlighter and the book and made my way from cover to cover. I had a new understanding of who I was and why I did the things I did. It really is required reading for anyone with the disorder, or if you love someone with this disorder

I was asked by a close friend to recommend some reading material about Bipolar Disorder because her family member has the condition. I looked at several books and found most of them to be either too scientific or too overly simplified. Dr. Mondimore struck a happy medium. His book is extremely well written and gives a comprehensive, yet easy to understand, medically based explanation of bipolar disorder. He also offers many helpful tips and insights to patients and family members who are dealing with the devastation this complex mood disorder can cause. My friend found this book to be very helpful in her search to understand the diagnosis and I, as a nurse, also found it to be an interesting read.

Ok, this guy is WAY too taken with Lithium therapy. If you can read beyond his obvious bias, there is a whole lot of good information in the book. It certainly limited the lost 'floundering' in this house, which has left us more able to focus on the needs of the individual with this disorder...always a good thing!

This book has helped tons!!! Thanks for writing such a comprehensive and informative book on bipolar disorder! It has helped me to understand a close family member who suffers from this mental illness. I highly recommend it to those who are interested in learning about bipolar disorder, especially those new to the illness either first-hand or because of someone they know and care about having this illness.
